I threw that mag away last year when we moved. There was one horn on each side of the car. Car audio and Electronics Magazine did a spread on his car and they had a picture of Richard holding one of the 50+ pound horns. but i can't find it on the web as of yet.
I've only seen a couple of these but both had badly warped boards. They boards are used to clamp the transistors and over time they become warped. When replacing the transistors, they aren't clamped well and it takes a bit of effort to get the transistors properly clamped.
I see it. Oh is that a screw there to clamp them? Ok I got it sort of like SS does. I so wish some amps didn't make it so difficult. I have about 4 spring clamps I have to re-bend for an infinity, the last model they use the double angles that slide in they were so nice.
So I assume they were a premium amp back in the day?

Holy crap that's a messy amp, I remember the brand popping up but they didn't seem to thrive. On another note I got an adcom 5450 (not super old school) recently and its built very well even to today's standards. The power supply has been repaired but it seems to play fine. I won't really know until it gets installed in my project car.
Hey look at this BRAND NEW In Box Phase Linear PLA200 300 Watt Car Amplifier
Anyone in South Jersey, is that really made in USA....by who? Phase Linear, I thought they were always Taiwan or something.
Far as that MSI amp, I really don't like it when they do strange stuff. I mean a board is made for electronics mounting not clamping things. Transistors are not made to hold the board in the amp (in some newer amps), I don't see what real advantage they see in screwing things together half baked or backwards that way. I guess I can see why they would not screw it at all, they can buy less screws that way.

I own a 15 years old ZAPCO Studio 500 used to drive (in bridged mode) my 12" ALIANTE subwoofer:
Does anybody know an AMP who would do this better?
Best regards - Rudi_Ratlos
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

@Jol50,
I have nothing to sell!
My installation is 6 years old and I will not change it.
The Aliante 12" subwoofers have a very poor grade of efficiency.
I tried a number of AMPs (f.e. DLS A1, Autotek Mean Machine, ..) to drive this subwoofer.
The only AMP that pleased my ears, that can play loud, is quick, melodic, ... is the Studio 500.
Best regards - Rudi_Ratlos

-What is the rms rating of the subwoofer?
-What is the sensitivity rating of the subwoofer?
-What is the resonant frequency of the subwoofer?
-What is the resistance of each voice coil?
-How many voice coils?
-What volume/size and type/design of box?
Zapcos amps in general are very clean and well built, as long as that amp is rated to produce a little more than that subwoofer is rated to handle and as long as you are running it bridged into a single 4 ohm load it should do the job.

- why are old school amps worth so much?
