Its difficult and you will end up with very low senstivity using a single mid.
Adding a powered sub with opposed side mounted drivers to a MTM or TMM
design would be a lot easier. I know of no such similar amateur designs.
The problem is you must use the mid down to quite low frequencies and
with a narrow baffle due to baffle step this wipes away 6dB sensistivity.
The Virgo's are 82/83dB and consequently also have good bass extension.
Its a valid approach as long as you know and accept ineviitable issues.
You cannot run the side drivers up to the point they roll off due to the
side mounting and exploit that, the room energy response goes to pot.

There are a couple of similar designs from Germany, the best known ones might be the Visaton Vox variations, these are all MTM with side bass; I'll put the links at the end because there are quite a few

One issue that hasn't been mentioned is time alignment of mid/ tweeter and bass. In one of the Forum threads one developers mentioned that they (Visaton) put the bass as high as possible to avoid having to deal with these issues electronically, maybe the slanted design of the Audio Physics serves the same purpose.
If you want to go with a full range and subwoofer you could look around for the several Tysen threads around here.

Zottinger has alreay posted links to Tysen & variants, Tysen i know works well. One of our upcoming projects is going to take that concept further with a Mark Audio Alpair7 flanked by 4 SDX7.
Fonken + FonkenWoof also works well.
I hope to be able to do a passive XO for the Alpair+SDX7 (as well as active), the other 2 are active.

Good idea. You could try the scanspeak 21W alu cone 9'' subwoofer which can go extremely deep in a small enclosure should you go for active amplification. Something like a 20L passive radiator design or 30L sealed (F3 of 33Hz). Poor sensitivity though, so expect around 500W of amplification.

Hi, my first proper project involved a Visaton FRS8M and 2xW130S 8ohm per side. The midbasses (XO at 300Hz) were mounted on opposite sides of the enclosure, tall slim ported enclosure that probably wasn't strictly ported (ML-TL, anyone?).
It wasn't bad, though the 3" driver gave up too quickly when things got loud.
An active crossover is a must here, guys. So much more flexibility. And power.

I have a set of those speakers, the MTM setup with a time-aligned 1" dome between two 4" mids. The bass and BSC duties are done with the 150 watt amp driving the side mounted 8" woofer. They are 12 years old and still kicking but eventually they will blow the amp. No problem, I'll cut out the mid/tweet enclosure--build a passive crossover and use dual 8" woofers in a different box. I might go active if I can find a "sub amp" that crosses at 300 Hz and drive two tens to make a tower. Tough to do when the mids/tweet are rated at 92dB. I'll cross that road when an amp fails I guess.
Like the sound of them and the side mounted 8" powered woofers cross at 300 Hz. Infinity does not make them anymore--they seem to have gone the way of cheapo Best Buy junk so I'll re-use the mids/tweets when the amps give out. My subwoofer does the 80Hz and under duties but I do like the side mounted woofers with active crossovers/amps.
