Cyrus 5 problem

Hi
This week I acquired a Cyrus 5 Amplifier from a reputable vendor who had similar new CYRUS 7 kit for sale (but no test cables or speakers). The amp. arrived in mint condition as a factory refurbished model with new cord and remote all packed as new from CYRUS ....but it is DEAD.

Before displaying my total unfamiliarity with its protection systems, electronic volume control, monitoring bus and who knows what else in this newer series, I thought I would ask if others are aware of any starting protection in these. They have BFA (expletives deleted) speaker connectors which means you can't use it unless you get some....and where might that be..? Well, Linn products were the cheapest Ebay source as it happens and that will be some weeks away I suspect.

Only one region would insist on such fool fittings, regardless of whether bananas slip into Euro sockets earth or not. Still, this will not endear me to potential helpers or engineers of anachronistica so I'll simply ask if there might be any reason that an unused refrurb. may not switch on when the line cord alone is connected.

Incidentally, this is a downmarket model with just 40W rating and no connection to PSX-R as its beefier CYRUS 7 provides. Yes, I have downloaded the operating manual(s), scoured them for hints, googled, emailed the Agent and Factory to no reply yet. I verified the remote's functionality and experimented with combinations of buttons to no avail.
No hint of life.

Anyone played with these before? Tell us a bit about them anyway.

Ah, at last, a fault that only a dumb consumer would stumble on! The new IEC lead connector and and some others of Asian origin I tried did not fit properly into the chassis plug. I have become too accustomed to very poor and hazardous fits with appliance leads. Some older European and Aus. ones did fit better. The only genuine fit IMHO was a common short electric kettle lead.

So much for IEC Standards, QA and audit. Sorry to waste your time, folks. It was not possible to verify power internally so this sort of error is inevitable.

Hi Andrew
Thanks for your comment.
Yes, the mains connection is clearly double insulated (Earth pin omitted from socket-sorry plug). If not for warranty concerns, this is the first thing I might otherwise check!

I suspect that Cyrus did not supply a lead to our local Australian/NZ pattern. That may have been the agent's responsibility and I think I've said enough for industry guys to see the problems.

Incidentally, the taper or moulding draw of the chassis "plug" is quite a bit greater than typical mouldings I buy. Some switched+fused types are near parallel walled but the basic type fitted to the amp is obviously not.
