Transfomer for DAC-END
Hi All and Hi phrarod!
Hi there!
Salas shunt used for the entire chip in the DAC-End is a special thing, and a number. Although very expensive, but for me with you it is great.
Ad1865, Cs8414, 74Hc04 current consumption is not large. Each shunt Salas just 60 mA, so it's just a transformer for a maximum of 100mA for each port.
Transfomer for DAC-END
6 x 9VAC / 100mA min.
EX: R-Core 2 x 9V 30VA
R-Core 2 x 9V 30VA

I'm sorry to be stupid and please forgive me. But if each port needs 100mA and there's 6 ports I need to tell my transformer builder he needs a total of the all the secondary winding - 600mA. Right.
He was kind of rough because its a difference between a total of the PT needing to supply 100mA or 600mA (or if I use the 200mA mentioned before 1200mA)
Since this is custom I don't want to make a mistake.

6 out put 9V AC
1. 1 x 9VAC / 100mA min. For +5v AD1865
2. 1 x 9VAC / 100mA min. For -5v AD1865
3. 1 x 9VAC / 100mA min. For +5v AD1865
4. 1 x 9VAC / 100mA min. For +5v 74HC04

Ok, 600mA min. 1200mA optimum?

yes!
Thanks!
I did some research and according to many digital designers and transformer builder they recommend the Digital Audio Transformer SC947-02 by Scientific Conversion as a input transformer. Wondering if anyone tried it
I've been using a Audio Note Torodial but the above should lower jitter much better.

The Newava S22083 that is recommended in this DAC's BOM is supposed to be better than the SC ones. I've not tried SC I must admit, but this advice is coming from someone that quite frankly knows more than all of us put together (Jocko Homo).
I would just like to be educated about this if its possible. This is one of the critical component and since lessening jitter is critical, and this is the input for everything I would love to know the differences.
Here is what SC claims for their trans
Sample Rates 32 - 192 kHz, Ultra Wide Bandwidth, 7kHz - 200MHz
Ultra Fast Risetime (3 nS!), Ultra Low Capacitance (0.5 pF!)
1:1 ratio "SUPER" Shielded
Optimized over entire range of sample rates: 32 - 192 kHz
Here are the Newava specs
1: INDUCTANCE: @ 100 kHz, 0.1 Vrms (1-2) > 225uHy
2: DCRs: (1-2, 3-4)=0.4OhmsNom.
3: LEAKAGE INDUCTANCE: 1 - 2 @ 100KHz (3 - 4) Shorted < 0.30 uHy
4: INTERWINDING CAPACITANCE: @ 100KHz (1-2) to (3-4) < 15pf
5: TURNS RATIO: (1-2): (3-4) = 1:1
Granted each isn't giving the same specs on each point so I would be interested what Andrea and QuangHao have to say.

Received mine, thanks.
If anyone finds suitable R-Core transformers for this project please post a model number and/or a link.... I'm having a hard time locating something that would work without having to buy many single transformers.
Thanks!
Thanks!
contact O-netics in Seattle Washington. They're making a custom one for me for this project. Maybe you could get enough people together for a group buy. He already has the design. The price isn't much more than an R-core and less if you have to buy multiples

received my IV Salas HV board
Can I use the same transformer that I used with the previous HV board. It is the RCore originally recommended by Andrea 0-250V 0-9V. It doesn't have center tap - just two AC leads for the HV.
Thanks

Should a IRF9160 or IRF9610 be used for Salas HV. BOM has 9160 but board has 9610

Bob
9610 or iRFP 9240
