First, I apologize for the cross-post, but I think my original thread was posted in the wrong sub-forum.
I have been fooling around with DIY speakers for a while, I used to be a member of the bass list and now mainly participate at AVS. There are a couple of projects I have been procrastinating on which I would like to get started with, but I'm having some difficulty with the PC side. I'll start with my first and simpler project.
Anyone running a Linkwitz Orion with a digital x-over?
Anyone know the transfer function for the Linkwitz x-over so that I can use the same with a digital x-over?
Any thoughts on using Audiolense and J River with a Lynx 2B card to run a digital x-over for Linkwitz Orion speakers?
How seamless is the Audiolense when used in conjunction with J River?
How good is the DRM in the Audiolense?
I J River able to handle running a 6 channel digital x-over with few problems?
Any insight would be appreciated.

While I don't have answers for you, I would like to know how it turns out. I run JRiver and an active crossover, but send 2 channels out of my sound card.

Running the filters created by Audiolense in JRiver is very easy. JRiver is also very stable, have a few Audiphile goodies, and a very good remote control function!

Being a dipole the Linkwitz Orion needs lots and lots of equalization at the LF end. If I am not mistaken, Linkwitz himself has cautioned against the use of a digitally implemented crossover due to a possible loss of resolution.
Perhaps just check the LF boost required. Although he does not provide the exact transfer functions of the Orion, it is possible to do rough calcs using the theoretical models he provides.

What's Wrong with SL's ASP
I recently finished building a pair of Orion+ including SL's ASP. The performance of this speaker system is simply amazing. What improvements do you think are available via DSP...Linkwitz seems to be a seminal thinker/technician & my sense is that if he could have obtained better perfomance using DSP, he would have gone that route.

My guess is that just duplicating the transfer function of the analogue crossover would probably not have much utility. The real advantage of DSP/DRM is that you can account for the bass frequency room modes and smooth the room response below 100Hz, and get all your crossover action done from the one unit (PC etc).

I have been pleasantly surprised by how the bipolar OB woofers on Orion are much less prone to excite room modes than a typical box...bass response is very smooth & quite deep even without the Thor subwoofers. Also the Orion ASP includes one unused but available active notch filter that can be used to tame a dominant room mode by selecting appropriate feedback components.

From what I understand the Orions are fabulous speakers, and SL seems genuinely knowledgeable and talented. However, even a dipole can't prevent room modes being excited (even if they pump less energy into the modes compared with sealed boxes) - so there are still benefits in digitally eq'ing the sub 100Hz region.
True, but I suspect that in taming closely spaced modes, one notch filter is not going to compete with say a 4000 tap FIR filter, which is typically available from the DSP software programs.
