Sorry, apparently the Dutch have a pecking order that we don't have here in the USA. I would presume that PhD's can do no wrong, but BA's are meaningless and can be insulted at will, even with 50 years experience behind them. The only exception that I know for sure is A J Vandenhul, who is attacked by just about everybody, especially my critics. I think A J is OK.
Gonna ask about high speed resistor to some PhD's in my university, one of the best in the country, with a lot of brilliant people, but in my humble opinion the S/N ratio here is pretty much to high, need some type of filtering lol
Yes, I mispoke, the real research was done elsewhere. Dr. Wald de Heer only participated in the 1998 paper that I like best.
'Fast', is my word, perhaps enhanced electron mobility is a better definition.
I thought the job of a resistor was to impede electron mobility.

You should all read 'Carbon Nanotube Quantum resistors' by Frank , Poncharal, Wang and de Heer. 'Science 12 June 1998. It is a little dated, but not for most here. Maybe, it will bring some of you into the world of today's physics. Did it for me, 10 years ago. It's lonely out here. ;-)

This resistor 'speed' is an interesting thing. First, what would create a SLOW resistor?
Well, length for a start. I would presume that a 2 meter long resistor would be 'slower' than a 1 cm long resistor, just travel time, all else being equal. Next, perhaps inductance included with the resistor. I would think that with 2 resistors of equal length, that the lower inductance resistor would be 'faster'.
Now, I will stop there for a moment and ask a fundamental question. What is the nature of resistance? If your first assumptions are put forth, then WHY doesn't sodium, etc NOT have the same resistivity as copper, silver, etc? Do the math an see for yourself.

A little bit thicker? They are a lot thicker, they have to be to lower the resistance. Ok, i'm not daft or rich enough to try them out myself but i get the idea of removing any metal crystal boundries. I have seen pictures of mad Japanese with troughs filled with mercury to connect their loudspeakers to ampsYes, something like that, though a little bit thicker (1 inch or so). Ridiculous, Totally !

OK Steve, the key equation is: R = h/2e(squared) or 12.9 K ohms.
That equation is for CONDUCTANCE, not resistance. Did you miss the "GO=" ahead of that equation in the article?
And what exactly does it have to do with what we're discussing here?
