Upgrade for a TDA2003

Hi all,
I would like to build a speaker for listen to the radio (FM).
I found this kit for a FM tuner with an integrated amp that is based on a TDA2003: FM Radio Receiver (1055)
I was thinking that the amp is not powerful enough so I'd like to upgrade the chip with another one more powerful: can the TDA2003 be replaced with something else like a TDA2040 or TDA2050 using the same circuit supplied with the kit?
Thanks in advance for every suggestion.
Ralf

Yes, that circuit would work - but it won't give you more power, and requires more components and different values than the original board. There is a topic in here about 12 volt amplifiers, but anything more powerful would require another PCB and maybe a more robust power supply. Simplest solutions are bridge amplifier, like TDA7240.
There are many designs and ideas to be found by searching around. Have fun.

sregor,
if I will build the amp around the TDA7240, would this be good for powering it?
40W 12V DC 3.2A Regulated Switching Power Supply
Thanks, Ralf

I see no reason why not, however, I haven't used this supply before. YMMV.
One more comment/ observation. The TDA2003 can work on higher voltage supplies. It would require a larger resistor to drop the voltage on the tuner chip, and making sure the caps in the circuit are of high enough value.

pacificblue: Although the pins are labeled simlarly, the 2003 has built in biasing for single supply use, which must be externally added to other amp modules. (Also, the - input is a low impedance input, which makes the 2003 difficult to use in circuits designed for other amps.)
