Making them? No I can't do that but I can take the life out of them easily.
That guy in the video is a mini God.

Thanks for the tip - it was quite an eye opener how many manual and fiddly jobs there were!
Too many high skills needed.
Not only the glass manipulation but all those fiddly metal parts to make.
Will stick to buying cheap Chinese valves from RS Components for less than £10.

P&C Electronics in Japan also has a great video of how they make their tubes. It's fascinating:

This was a good one for an overview of how they are made:

I wonder if making metal shell tubes as opposed to glass would be a more viable pathway?

Scrub that, it seems the metal ones have glass parts inside also:
Ever wondered about those American Metal Valves?

Indeed there were tubes with steel envelopes in the past. TELEFUNKEN here in Germany has developed an almost complete steel tube series in 1937. There were two issues with them which eventually lead to the end of production: Huge currents in hundreds of kAmps were needed to weld the envelope to the base, and it remaqined impossible to outgas the internal structurs by RF heating.
Best regards!

As a kid I had a big box of EF50s; big red metal ones. Philips, then Mullard managed to fire a getter at the top of the bulb. I don't know how, but I remember "skinning" one, so maybe the metal was added last.

It’s currently unclear if owners of tube amps will have to destroy their precious equipment before the deadline.
Wow, thanks for the heads up! I have just buried all my gear in the garden ;-)
EF50 wasn't a metal envelope tube. The aluminium can was imposed on the glass envelope as the final production step.

So, when the brexit is a fact all tube lovers have to move
to the United Kingdom. 😀
Oh, I think Brexit is too much of a serious issue that we should make jokes on it 😱!

Does any other nation possess the April Fools day 'tradition' or did that fly past everyone?
On thinking, it seems that I didn't pick up the irony... well duh
As far as the B word is concerned.....I am becoming more certain as the days pass, that we are bearing witness to the extinction of the 'civilised' West
