A wide range of phono RIAA headamps (phono preamplifier), that have outsourced main transformer for the power supply, used dc plugs/sockets like this showed in the attachement. Also some very expensive headamp devices (horrible for me).
I want to have better connectors instead this ordinary versions - but approximately in the same sizes. What is recommended as a better alternative?

I hate them as well. I've got 2 battery powered monica dacs I've built, and they both have 2.1mm power jacks.
The power plug doesn't fit snug, and I've always got to jiggle it. There's got to be a better way to secure power from a battery (or anything for that matter).

These ones? they come fitted with some hard disk cases, and can do a couple of amps on each pin. Fit is reasonably secure, far better than that tiny one which was meant for portable players...
Means the therm "barrel connector" a specific connector or is it only a general designation for a a particular connector species? I don't know this exactly, but if I look by "google", also the F connector for satellite tv and some BNC/FMA connectors are called "barrel connector"You mean the barrel connector? What don't you like about it?
I certainly thought the plugs and jacks for DC connections as showed by the second attachement (PDF) from post #1. This are bad after short time of use because there are undefined transition resistance; for normal low-cost applications irrelevant, but not for high quality RIAA head amps !!!
Sangram: a good solution if the dimensions (sizes) allow it.
It's a tiny little thing, about the size of an S-video connector. AFAIK the female come only in panel-mount version unlike S-video and the pins are about 3x thicker, but for the life of me I don't know what it is called.
There are Mini-DINs, mini XLRs, a japanese type often called "microphone" connector used on lots of HF/VHF radio gear, there's LEMOs ( expensive ), but for size it's hard to beat the cheapo's.
Mini XLRs would be my best bet, but I'm assuming your box are somewhat thicker than 10 mm, so what's the rush for extra-extra small?

Ok, I figured out what someone was using... Just took a bit of goggling around.

Thanks for this advive. Good solution. But not in all cases small enough.

CONN SOCKET PANEL MNT MICRO 2PIN - 17282-2SG-300
Dimensions: Inches/(mm) - I guess.
I quite like to use 4-pin molex connectors, the same ones that are used on older computer hard drives.
For new projects a good advice. But for replace the existing ones by types with better contact surface (better quality) by same outline not very helpful.I would go for mini XLR.
One of the best connectors for Power........
Any news in this case?
