Interesting, I used some of ERO greens in a MC240 rebuild and liked them, I tried some of the white TRWs and took them out.
Best film caps i have heard are:
Francesco.
- Cary Audio Yellow caps in Cary Audio 300B EX, i not know the manifacturer also it seems RELCAP Polystirene (any suggestions?)
- V-cap
- ICAR SP25
- Multicap RTX
- Cardas
Francesco.
Solen MKP is great...no wonder it's the most widespread in high quality commercial products. I wouldn't ever spend much more on a cap, anyway 🙂

Ha ha hahahhaha. It's ridiculous to make such a big deal of capacitors.
Solens are very transparent... and I know what I'm talking about.
Maybe hardcores are looking for something particularly seductive.... I look for transparency, and I love Solen's.
Maybe there exist even better sounding capacitors...but when the Solen's are so cheap and so good, it makes no sense, for me. Really, I can't find significant flaws in their sound quality...

Seriously: pheraps Solen is cheap but not very trasparency. Only its medium is very good, but it lack in high and in bass response.
You can try Cardas: it is also cheap for its quality. hear it and then let me know 😛

There's been Sin Bin filling jihad's here over lesser components 😉

Solens, IMO, are stupendous in crossovers and OK for high-level coupling, but as the signal level gets smaller, they get really boring and flat.
Maybe that's just how my brain interprets transparent? 😕
Cheers!
It appears a lot of us can interpret them differently, in crossovers I found them harsh, grainy, and added coloration.
A few years back I developed a new breed of capacitor for my own use. It was a porous teflon design injected with Fluorinert. Beat the pants off normal teflons, IME.
I like Rel RT polystyrene caps.
Hi John
Why it is not polypropylene caps? Please share your experience of using film caps.

Sure you do 😉

In a line level application (the 250V version) I find them smooth, uncolored and fluid, plus very clear. I must be lucky 🙂
Anyway I can't but look at things in a quality/cost perspective... and really I couldn't have spent the little money the Solen's cost any better. I would never spend on expensive caps anyway, when Wima or Solen MKP are that good. I also don't look for anything overly seductive.
