I need to replace some Toshiba 2SA1962 and 2SC5242 outputs
and I see that Fairchild has these for less money. I don't have any experience
with these under the Fairchild brand. Should I skip them and just get the
Toshibas?
Thanks

hello.
if i need it for service i would use the original transistors on principle.
(except the hifi gear isn't worth the money to repair it)

I can get the Toshiba devices at Digikey.
While looking them up I ran across the Fairchild devices.
The ones below are what I'm referring to.
While the data sheet uses two numbers for each
transistor you will notice that the pic shows it stamped
with the Fairchild logo and the Toshiba number.
I was just curious if anyone has tried them.
The price is right but not if they don't hold up
or meet up to Toshiba specs.

Digi-Key - 2SA1962OTU-ND (Manufacturer - 2SA1962OTU)
Digi-Key - 2SC5242OTU-ND (Manufacturer - 2SC5242OTU)
I think the fairchilds will work perfectly ok, most important is to look at SOA, fairchilds seem to be better and rightly so as it uses the TO3 P metal tab casing instead of plastic casing.
As far as I know fairchild is manufacturing these japanese trannies under licence, the japanese have a vast advance on semiconductor manufacturing and under a deal with american companies have transferred some of their knowledge and knowhow. Manufacturing equipment was provided too by the japanese, so when buying fairchilds you practily getting japanese transistor manufactured in the US. There shouldnt be any problems with the fairchilds.
Thanks for the replies.
I have used plenty of Fairchild devices before and
haven't had any problems. However I haven't used
anything from them larger than TO220 case. This is a bit
different animal and I was just curious if anyone here had
any experience with using these.
