My NAD C515BEE is finished.............

Thats a nice system. How doses it sound compared to the recently modded Nad gear? I bet the dual mono amps have a lot more drive.

Whats your main system and speakers (the one you use everyday)?

The disc/dacmagic are very good but the c500 & 2 x p500's are a bit crap. The p500's aren't dual mono, they're just 2 x stereo, was thinking about modding them to mono but to be honest, I'd rather get my nads finished first.

My 'main' was a Boothroyd Stuart 'Zebra', a Pioneer PDS702 stable platter and some B&W DM570's in black ash but my dad is a hi fi nut too, so most of my high end stuff is hand me downs, but that's not to say they're no good. He flew to Denmark to collect his new Gryphon setup a month or so ago so I inherited his Creek Destiny, Krell 400xi and B&W 804's.

Me likes muchly!

Thanks for th PM Mike, the bevvies are ok ta, Grolsch and Warsteiner on tap so a headache in the morning no doubt.

My dad has the 640c/a duo in his pool room, althought I doubt he'd be happy if I nicked his pcb and clock.

I have a photo of his AV room if you're interested, I love it, it's bloody fantastic!!!!

mikesnowdon......

The 2 silver cans are Nads S-Power lamps. There's basically a lamp in each can, they're supposed to remove some of the noise from the supply when it's heavily loaded and release power on lamp discharge, Or something like that. They glow like mad when you crank it up.

Removed the Tacima CS929 tonight and blimey charlie, much, much more low end. Chucked some electronica on and quite suprisingly for a 'lil' amp, the B&W's now kick like a mule..... Good stuff!

I should have listened to Brent ages ago and threw the CS929 away..... Ne mind

Forgot to mention.....

I replaced those Nichicon Fine Gold signal caps in the 515 with Silmics and left it playing while I was away. Came back and blimey! what a difference. No more Fine Golds for me!

That's about it for the NADs so I'll probably be slapping it on flebay unless someone here is interested in them and wants to make me an offer??

On to my next mission, Marantz PM7003/SA7003 combo. Canny wait!

Cool!

You'll have trouble selling modified gear and getting decent money for it. Just to warn you. I would put a reserve limit on so you don't lose them for peanuts. Maybe put them in the for sale thread on here?

Never thought of that (decent money), nevermind though. I knew I'll wouldn't get anything near what they've cost me up to now, after buying them I've spent about another £350 on bits 'n' bobs. Oops, just realised how much I've spunked on them (not literally!).

Guess it's back to the nads then, the 7003's can wait for now I guess.

Can't believe how much CD63KI's and PM66KI's are going on flebay for..... I nearly bought a duo from a seller about a year ago, they were mint, boxed with certs and he wanted 150 squid for both! Should have had them, boo.

How's your 640C coming on? or is that the one with the caput pcb??

Couldn't let the 'nads' go!

I've been playing with the 315bee tonight, I wasn't quite 100% happy with the output so I had 4 hours of messing time. I basically reverted all the caps apart from the Mundorfs back to standard.

The difference, blimey...... great. No more bright fatiguing highs and less than good mids with a low but unsharp bass. It's all changed for the better, getting rid of the Nichicon fine gold decouplings made a hell of a difference, then onto the coupling Pana FC's which were rubbish.

I added some Elna Silmics for signal coupling and feedback and 'hell yea' it's all good.

Now the vocals and instruments come from somewhere inbetween and above the speakers and not just directly from the speakers as before.

The mids are great, the punch hits your chest, the lows go deeper and the highs are fantastic.

There really is absolute no benefit from 'shot gunning' a load of low esr caps into something, it just doesn't work like that, shame I had to learn the hard way.

I'm happy again (for now)
