After a about an 9 months gathering and sifting of info, i finally got started on my build.
Decided on Ron's Austin 166 for the new home to my 168ES drivers.
That said, this is a tough build for a non carpenter mofro like me.:spin:
It will be slow and painful, any words of wisdom are welcome.

Cheers
Ed

Measure three times, cut once!

I have already botched up a couple pieces trying get the angles right. Got pretty frustrated, then finally got a method that works.:headshot:

Dave, I searched and read a ton, found lots of talk about the es-r volume adjustment but not the 168 sigma. Maybe I passed it up some how.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Thanks Dave, here & there... been so busy with 2 jobs now 😕
I think i missed out lots here. The last speaker build i did was that Lab12 tapped horn sub.

other CNC activity (off topic): Made 1/2" T-Rex for Halloween '09

Tony, how do you avoid squashing the pumpkins in the CNC? 🙄

cute job on the T-Rex

Tony your layertones have been very inspirational too me
The Trex is cool too.

I am a little out of my league trying this build so its going slow, I have made a few mistakes but over all it will work out.

I am still confused on the chamber size, even after sifting through all the threads for the last 45 min. It could be not seeing the forest for tress...or input overload, as I am a pretty tired also. I will review tomorrow again.

I did get one more board glued up today🙂

hey, i'm on the east coast and am interested in the cnc A166 horn you did. i don't know if you're doing a one off or production run of flat packs but would probably get killed by shipping cost etc. sorry if i missed anything, prob. everything in your link wrt flat packs. so however i'd like to know if i could have a local shop do a one off from your cnc A166 program disc or whatever it is that they call it.
i'm trying to build a few different horns for my 166es-r drivers to find out first hand what sounds best vs., livability and waf. a cnc program would save time on one design which i may otherwise pass up. i have a dewalt 10 compound sliding miter saw, table saw so the angles aren't a problem just time consuming.
thing is, i'm not thrilled about building a speaker that has to be in corners to work properly given i've few acceptable corners to use where i'd want to keep a system. if cnc'ed i'd build it to try because of the ease. at the present a scratch build isn't very high on my to do list for the aforementioned reason and in part by ron clark's nonchalant aloof attitude toward the horn on my 166es-r thread. ron specifically said the A166 is passe and not designed or optimized for the 166es-r, not very encouraging. you're layered version with acrylic sides is visually exciting and well, were all blinded by beauty sometimes so i may want to give it a go. i don't know, we'll see and the cnc program would help with that if you can.
