I think that I am going to stay on the serie XA, especially that it is more the quality of the stamps that interests me with regard to the power,
I have heard the serie X which is really exellent, but I was always enticed by class A, but it is only a question of choice

thank you for your opinions

I'll tell you something on december when I'll listen the XA160.5 in my house. I looked at the XA160 Stereophile's test....

"Inside is a massive Piltron 3KVA toroidal transformer operating at a fraction of its rated power into high-speed, soft-recovery rectifiers coupled to six computer-grade 25,000µF, 75V capacitors...."

Are in the .5 version the same components?

I am satisfied for you, I hope that you will cross a christmas with Xa 160.5 (with your family also🙂) make us your impressions share during the installation of the animal
I, wait to have enough sous for Xa 160.5
Xa 200.5 makes me dream, but I believe that Xa 160.5 will be good, they are amplis with many of thus running( amperes) it should be sufficient for driver Maxx
That think ?
Excuse I for my English

Don't worry
Take a pair of 160.5 and happy Christmas to you and mr Pass 😉

Power output, heat sinking, supply capacitance. They use
different taps off the same type of transformer.

😎

Hi Nelson:

I have a set of beautiful XA160.5's, but I am interested anyway. You say the XA200.5 have a different "tap" (I assume you mean a different version (read more Powerfull) of the same transformer, right??? I actually thought they had the same transformer, and only the number of output devices were different. But what are the diffrences exactly??? How much more powerful is the transformer in the XA200.5 Compared to the XA160.5???

the differences is as I know of now:

Number of Power Mosfets: XA160.5 XA200-5

72 80

Number of Heatsinks: 6 8

Weight Kilos(Pounds): 68(150) 80(180)

When you say transformer, do you then mean the Power Supply and if so does the XA160.5 perhaps have a 1 KVA transformer inside of it, where the XA200.5 has a 1.5 KVA transformer inside of IT or how does this measure??? The X1000.5 have as far as I could read 2 x 1.5 KVA Transformers in it, but apparently the XA200.5 only has one, which probably accounts for the weight difference (the X1000.5's 200 pounds vs. the XA200.5's 180 pounds). Why is this??? shouldn´t they be more or less exactly the same, only the bias being a difference between the two??? I know Michelle also asked this, but I didn´t really understand your answer, could you please elaborate, Nelson???

Sincerely Stax DMA-X2

Since a couple of month I am owner of a pair of B&W 800D. Unfortunately I had them (and they are still) connected to a R.... 15xx. A mistake I know, my mistake honestly!

Two days ago I listened for about 3 hours to those same speakers connected to a pair of XA 100.5. As we all know the 800D are hungry like predators, now don't they?

Dear Mister Pass,
those "little" XA 100.5 served them astonishingly well and when I returned home, I caught the opportunity to gather that difference between excellence and -well- pretty nice.
(Remember? first listen the good one and eventually the lesser one, you will hear the difference.)

Do you want to know more?
This same day I signed for a pair XA 160.5 and the XP 20.
I have to wait till november, well Patience Is A (shivering) Virtue.

(I dare one Question: Can I connect my ancient Threshold SA/3 to my little B&W 805D? It pleasured both, my Quadral Phonologue Vulcan MK IV and my ears very well)

I was "listening" intensely to your comments folks.
Conclusion:
Two Pass Labs XA 160.5 with that formidable XP 20 Preamp are working together with those B&W 800 D.
Marvelous, just marvelous.
Michele, Robin410, thank you for asking that many questions and in capitals THANK YOU Mister Nelson Pass, if this is really Mr. Pass I am talking to. I owe you great respect.
