I don't believe cables make a difference, any input?

Why is that? It looks to me like the guy loves audio😀

And it looks to me like any love of audio there may be takes a decided back seat to his obsessive compulsion to "tweak."

I look at those photos and can't help thinking of that scene from the film The Wall, where Pink has meticulously arranged all the trash and debris following his thrashing of the hotel room.

And if he did manage to score, I can imagine the morning after.

Her: Wake up, sleepy head.

Him: Hmmffffmlllfmm *smack* *smack* *smack* Morning. What's this?

Her: I got up early and thought I'd fix you breakfast in bed.

Him: How sweet of you! Thank you!

Her: Oh, and while breakfast was cooking, I tidied up that big mess you had behind your speakers.

😀

My wife does not touch my stereo, except to turn it on. Of course it is not in her living room, so maybe that has something to do with it too. I have been fortunate as my wife loves great audio. She has told me from time to time that what ever I did to the stereo, please put it back the way it was before. She is my final decision maker when most changes are made to the system. I rarely disagree with her inputs. Her ears are better than mine 😀

Thats cool, I have read that many many times about women and hearing.

I do use my wife to confirm any new speaker choices or builds. She is honest with me what sucks and what doesn't.

Of course my wife would say "Not in our house" if I laid amps and wire over the floor. I would agree with her on that topic.

Ah, that takes me back. In the HiFi magazine era there were countless examples of the "good woman" popping her head around the kitchen door saying, "what have you done to the stereo dear it sounds so much better."
Nice to hear that even with separate living rooms this still goes on. 🙂

[snip]....for this reason I hold that the hearing ability of the human ear has to take a more important position than the brain in this discussion........after all it is a measurable factor!!!!😀

Ah! I can see how you reach this conclusion but unfortunately it is false! If your ears don't work you hear nothing, so clearly you need some working ears!
But, and this is a big but, what you eventually perceive is very much removed from what air vibrations get into your ear.

Your brain takes what it gets from your ears, compares it to what you expected, integrates it what you experienced last time, matches it to the shape, color and design of the source, runs it through your listening environment, then filters it for your 'body state' (how you feel, your emotions, whether you are tired or not etc) and then finally presents the result for your concious perception.

It's a wonder at all that we can compare what we hear at all!

That just nonsense 😉

The soon-to-be Mrs. Y made this observation after a listening session at a hifi show: "They change something that doesn't make any difference, listen to the same piece of ****ty music each time, do this over and over, and it still doesn't sound any different."

Not that she's cynical...😀

Genuine! And all that happen before the song ends? 😀
