Cables do make a difference, but most setups are not able to reproduce the differences due to other factors like room acoustics, speakers, amplifiers, file format, the listener's hearing ability, etc. Although I would think that the "copper foil" cables that have a really thin layer of insulation between the +/- "wire" would create a nice capacitor more often than not. 🙂
WHat about this, ?
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
Or this ?

OH perhaps sitting right here, ..

Cables have a huge impact on systems, hence why this guy i know, ( VERY SMART GUY ) has LOTS of money invested in cables, why, because they are all hand picked and all tested, i bet this system has changed again too.! as always does.
Yep those are jm lab real speakers, he even modded those too lol, id say he has the bug for sure.!

That's beyond "the bug." That's a form of mental illness.

Why is that? It looks to me like the guy loves audio😀

Lmao, The guy uses cable lifters.....He may be smart at something but its not audio science 😉
Hi,
My church has a proven track record.
I am not the religious type but just wise enough to know that one day science might catch up.
I'm not the only one with a brain either, SY.😛
Cheers, old chap, 😉
Are you saying you have documented proof of controlled tests showing all these differences?
Hi,
Unfortunately not.
The results of the controlled listening tests I paticipated in are either archived somewhere or long gone.
Either way there's no way for me to obtain copies of them now.
Cheers, 😉

Did you post about this experience? What conclusions?
Could you choose one cable consistently over 75% of the time to be the best cable?
Was that cable expensive or in-expensive?
Do you remember the cables used?
Im genuine in my curiousity because at the end of the day if there is truth I want to learn more. I have no problems whatsoever changing my opinion if there are facts out there. I keep asking, I keep search but still none.
Nice system! JM Labs build a great sounding speaker.
The diffusers on the wall are good. I'm trying to build some myself.

Doug, Frank has been perfectly clear long before this that he's speaking ex cathedra and will not provide evidence of his claims; you either believe or you don't. So it's really not worth pursuing. Have a nice cup of tea.

ex cathedra nulla salus
I'm a bit curious, for those folks that can hear a difference between a $200 dollar cable and a $10 dollar cable at what point ie length of the cable does the difference in sound no longer happens. If you have 5 meters of let's say speaker cables and there is a difference in sound how about 3 meters or 1 meter. At what point in the length of the cable is there no difference. We all know that when 2 different metals are in contact corosion can occur and the contact point can produce voltage. Seeing that there are many different types of metals used, gold, silver, copper, tin, lead brass etc in electronis/speakers and this can lead to a corosion nightmare. When I used to work for a living I solved many, many "intermittent" or solid failure electrical/electronic problems with contact cleaner. The product used was nyogel 760G. Before that deoxit and before that 600grit carbide sandpaper and rubing alcohol. Try reseating connectors or cleaning the contacts. Save yourself some serious cash. You can send me the savings as my retirement savings have dwindled due to the recent financial crisis.
OT:
Steve, Dr. Who fan? =)
Very much so. Tom Baker was my favorite before David Tennant. I'm going to miss him. I wonder how Matt Smith will be?
I am also a big fan of Torchwood.
Hi,
Ars longo, vita brevis would the correct expression, Sir Asinus.😀
@ Doug: None of those tests included any expensive cables.
Brands varied from Deltec to DNM, Naim,Isoda, Monitor Audio, VDH etc. That stuff.
That was around the late 1980's when every engineer still had a hard time believing that not all caps would sound alike.
Expense of a product is the least of my worries as it is no guarantee whatsoever for a decent result.
Keep in mind also that no one, to my knowledge at least, ever ran comparative listening tests of any amount of cable with the exact same LCR parameters.
From that perspective, yes, science has caught up but there are still a few herrings on the shelf. Red or otherwise...
Cheers and enjoy that cuppa. 😉

Mine is funnier.
Not your ears, your brain. But that's heresy in your church.
Hi,
I'm not the only one with a brain either, SY.😛

As we get older our hearing ability declines due to the EAR suffering degeneration. The EAR acts as a receptor and converter of external sound so that the sound may reach the brain in an acceptable form.
Testing (by MEASUREMENT) a random sample of 100 people will clearly demonstrate that hearing is a very varied ability due to the ear as a transducer being so varied in its efficiency.
....for this reason I hold that the hearing ability of the human ear has to take a more important position than the brain in this discussion........after all it is a measurable factor!!!!😀
Incidentally, how old are your ears now SY?😉

Young enough to tell the enormous difference between live music and a stereo.😀
