My name is Paul, and so far I'm floored by the breadth of talent and the quality of posts! I hope I'm worthy!
I'm 50, live in North Carolina with my dear wife, and I've been obsessed with audio since I was 12. At that time the cost of equipment was frightful. Then I found Audio Amateur Magazine, then Speaker Builder.
Since then, life has been a grand procession of mostly unfinished projects. (A dear, understanding, patient wife)
I have:
-Wired both heat-sinks of a Dynaco SCA-80Q upside down (1/8 watt per channel)
-Maintained the tracability, static neutrality and cleanliness of my vinyl pressings, until I realized the music was crap only a 12-year-old would listen to
-Burned out an Old-Colony crossover because I set up a power test while watching TV
-Built a pair of ACI Sapphire copies in '92 that I still can't beat, so those are what I listen to.
-Done a few gut-rehabs of KLH cabinets (don't worry, common models) and stuffed them with quality drivers.
-Did 3 months back in the eighties at a high-end audio dealer and learned that you have to be careful to charge enough money so the buyers believe you have quality
I'll be as helpful and to-the-point as I can, and I'll try not to wander like I just did. This is going to be a resource to execute my projects!
Thanks for Having Me,
Paul
P.S.: I'm building a humongous subwoofer enclosure in our attic that the wife doesn't know about...

Welcome!
When I'm in NC, I'm just up I-40 from you in Hillsborough. There's a fair number of us audio crazies in the area 🙂

Just turn the attic into your sub-woofer!!! 😎
Welcome to diyAudio from another Southern Audio Nut 😀
Welcome!
I'm to the west of you in Greensboro. Seems like the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area has the most audionuts in the Carolinas.

With those speakers Cal W is gonna be your next best buddy!!
Just send her out shopping - you'll have plenty of time to get the job finished.

Yeah 😀
Another local guy in Knightdale...this was from an Audiokarma get-together.
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
That reminds me of the Grateful Dead's "Wall of Sound" back in the '70's!!
Plus dual Lava Lamps!!! 😎

Too bad I wasn't even born in the 70's. The Grateful Dead are awesome! I would love to listen to Hendrix and Janis Joplin live just one time.
That pic with the garages full of speakers is great! What do the neighbours say?

man, i never knew you guys existed here in NC. Lemme know if and when you guys decide to get together... It would be highly enlightening for a newb like me to come listen.
It's been a while since we've had any kind of big meetup...doesn't help that people are split over 2 or 3 forums, either (Audiokarma and Audiocircle both have a pretty big RTP contingent, too).
There's going to be a mini-Hornfest on Sep. 19th: http://www.audiophiletalk.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1251397303 near Columbia, SC...still haven't decided if I'm going yet, I just drove down there a couple weeks ago for the sound quality show at Elite Summer Nationals 😀

I got to see them all live, with back stage pass. And I think I remember it?
