VSSA won't be too weak for my needs. 50W/ch would of been sufficient.
I'll stick to one pair output device configuration, thanks.
I can't find data related to DC error detection trigger voltage...if it's 12V I won't use it as spkr protection circuit, I'll buy a upc1237 PCB cct instead.
BR,
Eric

I have both the Jason's and PMI's so later I will try a pair of Connex 500Qr2 (unregulated) with the PMI amps to see the differences.
Great news. Let us know how it goes, really interested.
cheers

Good choice, although the DC sense modules which we successfully use together with First One/SMPS1200 could also be used with VSSA, its DC trigger voltage is app. 1,5 V 😉
Hi !
Where we can order this VSSA module ?
I'm very enthusiastic to try your VSSA amp !
JD
VSSA v1.5 modules will be available again in early 2015, same power level, same size, same fixation holes layout, so easily replaces previous versions. Modules will be ready made and tested. 😉

Hi LC,
Would you mind sharing where I can find more info about your DC sense modules.
Please send me a PM if you prefer not to mix FO with VSSA thread.
Thanks,
Eric
You can specify the price at the board of your amplifier?
Hi Axel
VSSA not available yet, plans to start production in early 2015 😉
Greetings Lazy Cat!
I bought this version: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/swap-meet/265336-vssa-1-4-new-not-assembled.html

Hi AxelFPS when LC did the build he recommended Nichicon FG. That said it will work with whatever brand and cost if capasitor works as the values written on it is electrically at the legs, but as reported many times every capasitor has a sound signature.Greetings Lazy Cat!

Here two links from this thread that can be a help for qustions including physical size made on PCB for the capasitors. A last thing not mentioned in the links is try isolate from PCB the two screws placed at VAS to not get a ground loop (The one at output device not necessary to isolate). Good soldering 🙂.

Nice, make it sing soon. 😎Greetings Lazy Cat!

Nichicon FG is recommended, but you're invited to try any brand name you can think of as long as the values are exact from the BOM.

You still advise to remove 10µF caps ?
To mirror 🙂 LC's final build and to achieve same soundstage follow original BOM and manual by having it in there and then if curious for signature without try pull or cut trace the 10uF and listen. The info at #2534 that points to #1424 it's just pointed out that amp can run without 10uF if preferred and has to be experienced by listening test and actually some builders have expressed they prefer without.
Some info for capasitor impedance can be seen here at link but don't panic to expect as in those examples LC tested combination for good, but its a good example to see some capasitors impedance plots and how bypass caps and their actually layout implantation can be both better or worse. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/powe...ing-psu-capacitors-effective.html#post1566979
No rush about it, VSSA v1.5 ready made modules PCB size 50 x 60 mm will be available in early 2015.![]()
Happy new year everybody 😛 will the new modules host a DC sensor onboard ?
I know PCBs are small, and I like it (multi-channel amp in mind), but if it's feasable with a few SMD components that could be very practical...
I'm in possession of a pair of Quad 2805 ESL speakers and looking for a new amp.
For some reason I decided that the new amp had to be a diy one (Oh my !!)
The last few months I did a lot of reading in the solid state forums of
this website. I learned a lot. For instance that I know little of this partcular craft.
Perhaps it would wise to look for something a little less diy.
And then I stumbled upon this VSSA thread. Immediately I thought: this is it.
First because the Quad factory manual describes the amp requirements as
having an output capability of 20V - 30V rms (40-100W into 8 Ohms).
Your VSSA falls nicely in that category. What's more I listen at moderate sound levels.
Furthermore your VSSA can handle capacitive loads very well and from the many posts
I got the impression it is in a class of its own.
Second because the diy part is relatively small and I am sure I can handle that part.
So Mr LC come on with your next VSSA I can't wait

on peeceebee thread :
HI LC,
Could you explain ?
As you wish, minimal modification, same active parts count, VSSA sounds so much better. You need to experiment more.![]()
HI LC,

Distortion?
I see at the start of this thread some distortion simulations, but the FET models used seem to be practically useless for this.
Has anyone done distortion sims with accurate models? I would prefer not to have to search the whole thread😉
Best wishes
David

Dave,
My questions would be why do sims when there are actual finished units to measure actual distortion values. Aren't the sims always just that and prone to error no matter who's model for such things as transistors are used?
