I do have to get at my Mark II version with the bigger OPTs.

Bas, except for the lack of bass (expected with my OPTs) it is a decent sounding little amp. here is mine...

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

One of the readers of my site, built one, and later subbed in a set of Lundahl 2A3 OPTs (making it a $405 amp :)) and said it wasn't all that far behind the 2A3... the single stage i'm sure plays a role.

My sample size is much larger (n>50). Most common are EL84 SE by a fair ways. Other NA ones have 6V6 SE & PP, some EL84 PP, 6BM8 & ECL86 PP, 50C5 and 50EH5 is actually fairly uncommon. German ones also have ELL80 & EL95 SE & PP, ECLL800 PP, and i have one TFK EL84 PP. Occasionaly i'll see SE or PP 6AQ5. Japanese tape decks seem most often to have SE 6AQ5 or 6BM8. The Sony TapeCorder 500 has a lovely 6AQ5 SE with (i believe) Tamura output transformers. These have a 600 ohm tap for driving the heads which would be perfect for that subwoofer amp fed or to make a preamp with serious grunt.

Here's my piece....

Well, here's a few pictures of my latest project.

It's a 6L6GC ULPP amp now, but will replace those with KT88's when they are worn-out. I use a single 6J5G triode at the input coupled to a longtail ECC99 as phase-splitter. The PP stage is UL and kathode biased. My dad was so kind to make me the nice oak-wood chassis :)

Greetings,

Kathode Ray.

Very good looking job Ray! What is the pcb thingy you've got in there...a power on relay circuit?

Regards,
Bas

PS...You are welcome to come and listen in Middenmeer to my 6c41c if you like...

Hi Bas,

Indeed, it's a delay for the +B voltage, since i'm using SS recitifiers.

Ray.

Middenmeer hey, that's not too far from Heerhugowaard.....

Looks like on your new amp you have the output transformers oriented differently with respect to each other?

Yep, the PSU tranny's were projecting their field right through the tubes and OPT at first :-o Gave a bit of a hum at the output obviously.
I fixed it in the old amp too, i never made a new picture though.
I thought it would be a problem for the tranny's to be so close on my new amp, but it's quiet as a mouse.

Let me guess the first one was built with Klare stuff and your second one with AE Europe stuff.:D

Nope..it's right around the corner. The guy that winds Klare's transformers also live in Heerhugowaard.

Good guess! You recognize the model?
So, i reackon you make regular trips to Schagen also :)
Great guys there, I heard they are expanding quite a bit.

Ray.

Yep...great folks there. Was there just last week...got some silver wire and Bullet plugs...

Apparently Kim is going start to her own little business ..selling parts..and tubes..etc.
I get the idea that they do audio transformers is just because Wil likes it personally...I think he makes his money with normal transformers....:D

Klaas and Rene are great guys as well. We are quite lucky here in the kop van noord holland.

I got me some JJ caps a while ago. Those Black Gates were really tempting.....
Yep, the volumes will be small for this kind of audio stuff, but it is a hobby that grew out to something serious, thank goodness....

Sound is unbeliveable. I haven´t heared tubesound before, so sound came total suprise.

Absolutely looking good! Like the housing also, very nice.
You have the 6L6 in parallel triode I assume, with SRPP driver?

I see you have the luxury of listening to it while sitting behind your computer.

Thank you !

I don´t know, what that connection is in english, but it´s "vastavaihevahvistin" in finnish :xeye:
If somebody is from finland, please say that in english :cannotbe:

I even don´t know what SRPP means :bawling:
This is my first tube amp project, and i haven´t had time to get to know about tubes

Thanks olso BAS ;)
