I set the ground plane under the particle board top (they changed dimensions since 1981, so I'm not replacing the top), grounded it to the single point ground, wired the Isolation Transformers with 6' cords and tie wrapped the excess in bows after setting up a power strip just for them.
I made the mods to the IG-18 per the Williamson article.
I get less distortion (0.008%thd) and ground clutter with the IG-18 than I do if I use the computer sound card output. So, I guess I'll start using it.
The HP333A shows almost identical distortion numbers, so it looks much better.

I started a separate thread on the IG-18, IG-5218 and posted therein that disconnecting the Schmitt trigger will knock down the noise. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/equipment-tools/168718-heath-ig-18-ig-5218-a.html
