The making of: The Two Towers (a 25 driver Full Range line array)

Crazy weather outside so no work being done on the speakers or my car...
I figured I'd have some time to update all the links in the first post of this thread.
The update of the forum software made a mess of that, so I manually restored them to make sense again.
This thread is so huge, it needs at least some guidance ;). If I have missed a link just tell me.

I can hardly wait to get going again, but I simply refuse to do it out in the cold ;).
Getting so close to yet another mysterie to unravel... will the Scan Speaks sound any different? Who knows!
Getting anxious to hear them, I miss the movie nights and day-time audio sessions... it has been weeks...

JRiver... there is audio/video sync options and it is a set it and forget it kind of deal. It tries to automatically adjust for it's own convolver.
But as I have other steps with delay (the added Mid/Side EQ for instance), I set it by hand with a sync video.

The only thing it needs to work well is for me to store my movies (on my NAS). I can't play from DVD etc.
Netflix has audio/video sync options, which I have used in the past... I couldn't find a how to with Disney+ though.

So its a definite issue you work around by first getting the video onto a drive but a continuing issue for streaming. Too bad your dial it in tool doesn't work with streaming.

I'm only watching you tube and other streaming sources in the room with my KEFs and I've got a huge audio delay using WDM driver through JR with IIR PEQs. Must be the buffering...I guess I should try reducing that to a minimum for each source but with variable WWW delays, that might not work.

I used to do EQ in miniDSP and didn't have a problem. Then I upgraded to MOTU+JRiver for convolution and it was fine so long as I just used it for music. My current solution is to use headphones for video.

Exactly.
Before, it was easy, just get Netflix and most of the stuff will be there. About $10 a month.
These days, every little CEO wants a slice of the pie, so everyone goes into their own streaming platform, pulling out their stuff from Netflix, making it exclusive for their service only.
Now, if I wanted to follow all the shows I used to watch, I would have to sign on at least 4 different streaming services, at more than $10 each. So, I'd have to shed more than $50 a month. Nope.
I much prefer spending my money on buying drivers or other toys!

I stumbled onto something yesterday, and I thought this was right up to your line of thinking...

Did you see the app "Cavern"?
It's supposed to be this app for real-time manipulation of the audio stream for movie theaters or music halls, using filters, delays and all...

Looks interesting.
I'm on a Mac, but I have an old PC I could get out of storage to try it.

Tried it for 2 hours this afternoon.. couldn't get it to work.

There's not a lot of feedback while the whole process is going on, so there's no way to find out if the export worked as it was supposed to.

I did manage to get it working once, the house curve was really dark. Almost -20dB between low end and top end.
So, I tried to tweak it and get another shot at it, but I couldn't get the APO to stick with the new file, the whole Windows system decided to not recognize it .

There might be some buried into some obscure windows kinda check box I need to tick, couldn't find it.

Went back to my Mac, where everything makes sense, at least to me! :D

I got problems of my own. Audirvana decided to go subscription based, and I just can't support that kind of commercialism.
Too bad. It had a very sweet audio engine that made everything sound clean (yes, cleaner than JRiver.) Now, I have to try to find another music player that I like.

There's a new Fidelia out, but the old test version keeps crashing on my new M1, and they don't have a tryout of their new version.

Yes, I do think the Mac port of JRiver is sorely lacking. It only makes sense on a Windows system.
I hope you'll find a worthy successor. There's always the option to go with a dedicated audio version of raspberry pi.
Not that I'd want it, but I bet it could make a fun stand alone solution for a simpler system (than mine).

It might be fun, some day, to play with Cavern. But I though that about APL_TDA too and never got round to trying in out completely.
Despite Mr. Skuruls generosity to make it available to me (years ago). I think nc535 has played with it as well as BYRTT (missing in action?).

Something new to ponder about... After 4 years of no interest at all, our cat decided it would be fun to hang on to one of the TC9's in the array.
Upon further inspection she has done so at least one more time on the other side. Her nails just teared a bit of surround loose.

Don't worry, the cat is still fine. Sure I was pissed off about it, but this one isn't going to learn. It's just strange that for 4 years, there wasn't any intention of doing any harm.
Out of the blue she decides it's a fun thing to do..

I'll be pondering about which solution to go for to prevent it from happening with drivers at least 5 times as expensive...

A solution like Gryphon uses comes to mind... if I can find suitable materials. I can 3D print (commercially) the needed brackets...
