You may try the dsPIC33F. The dsPIC33F DCI (Data Converter Interface) may be compatible with the WM8580 CODEC when used in TDM mode. Section 20.5.3 "Data Packing for Long Word Support" and section 20.5.4 "Multi-Channel Operation" in the dsPIC33F Family Reference Manual - section 20 Data Converter Interface (DCI). This would make a quick and dirty (16x16 bit = MAC40 bits) digital crossover.
