In fact, there is no need to redesign the UGS-3 PCB to accomodate LSJ74/LSK70 grade B.
LSJ74 and LSK70 have DGS pinnout whereas 2SJ109 and 2SK389 are DGS-SGD.

So soldering them side by side in opposite orientation would do it.

The only downside of this arrangement is slightly more complicated thermal coupling of both trannies. So the only one reason to re-design existing UGS PCB would be to re arrange location of those devices to glue/join them together with flat surface.

PASS isn't using a cooler on their UGS modules, so not sure its needed.

how do the LSK compare sonically and technically to the toshiba jFET‘s?
anybody already used them?

That I don't know. There are some reliable vendors on Ebay that sell matched original Toshiba 2sj74 and 2sk170. If you want genuine Toshiba JFet's, that's what you need to get. I have not heard anything bad about the Linear Systems reproduction, perhaps others have.

Fun fact. The Linear System LSJ74 and LSK170 both come in SOT-23 package. I had that in mind when designing the UGS4x. I forgot to mention this as I had the N-Chn Toshiba 2SK209 in mind. So the X can be a N- and P-chn gain stage as the std UGS4.

Does the request list include a gain stage by default when referring to a PCB set?

I ask because the gain stage was being noted separately a few pages back but a lot of those details have disappeared from what I can make out (I'm currently on a phone catching up, so hopefully I've not missed something critical). I was about to put my hand up for a gain stage but realised that there might have been a copy/paste mishap somewhere.

Involved stuff like this can benefit from an online spreadsheet GB setup. If that's not adopted, then a call out to check quantities before placing an order wouldn't hurt.

Linear doesn't seem to offer the LSJ109 anymore, but they do offer the LSK389 in either SOIC-8 or TO71. The pinout for the TO71 metal can (SDG-SDG) would be a bit of a kludge to try to put into the 2-10MIA footprint without using an adapter board. The TO71 would also mess with the heatsinking.

Linear also offers and LSK489 and an LSJ689, both of which are lower noise and lower input capacitance. I've used these before but haven't directly compared to the Toshiba parts. Nothing stood out as being out of the ordinary though, so I would think they compare pretty similarly.

The "noted separately" was in regards to the new gain stage called UGS4. The original UGS-Muses is using an alternative PASS gain stage known as the UGS V3 or UGS3 and is part of the set.
I am only answering because I started the whole thing with the UGS4. It might come further down the road as a separate upgrade option.
