So there is a possibility that Bob Pease becoming a TI employee?
There's something fundamentally wrong about that...
but TI and NatSemi customers could see higher prices down the line with lower competition.
There are still better choices like Analog, Linear, Maxim, & STMicro
Look at it this way. Instead of agonizing over which of the 32 opamps to chose for your next project, you now only have to agonize over 11. Definitevely a time saver!

Well, if National Instruments was in trouble, I can't think of a better company to take them over.
I guess it's not that big of a surprise considering the layoffs that happened at NI 2 years ago and todays fragile economy.
I read this on the reg this morning and wondered why it would take 2 years after layoffs to actually put the deal together?
TI borrow$ to capture market share and gain leverage over the competition. When investment capital is cheap and not too high an expectation for ROI (just yet).
Regarding product and staffing overlapping / I don't think TI has any plan on the details, just "let the chips fall where they may".
see attached clipping from EE Times
leverage works like this
when I worked for a small fabless chip design house we could not get into the top OEM set top box designs since the big boys already had 80% of the designed in parts and thus they would offer the contested chip/s for free to their OEM customers just to keep out the competition.

AFAIK Bob Pease is retired enjoying his pension.
I think he was actually laid off (!) along with a lot of the Audio group several months ago.
