Zen Mod and his "Smokin'" sausages. See, I got him the proper stone slab!
People got a choice - stone or charcoal fired..
My son in the red shirt.
Hard to tell in the photo, but it was a beautiful day even though rain was predicted. The next day my brother got married on a sailboat in the bay
-still beautiful. Monday- Rain!....lucky. I'm pretty tired. Thank you all who volunteered.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

The Slot-loaded OB's sounded just as you would expect... Big, open, effortless, punchy, dynamic, musical, all in all, very nice indeed. Also, even though it sounds cliche, they were not boxy at all. Everything else there, save the Orions, sounded boxy by comparison. The beast of a thousand jfets had no problem driving them, and although it would have been nice to hear them biamped with an active xover, the passive was very good.
I think, however, their WAF is measured in negative numbers... ;P
If I had a dedicated room, I would build them today.

Yeah - I know exactily what you are talking about. Hopefully there were no stray zapps, I have no real idea how I could replace them...

I am also very interested.
Thanks
I never stop moving at the show, so just an impression, but while I was in Nelson's room, they would catch my ear each time as sounding very good. Punchy, not boomy bass. The rest like other full range open baffles. Bass/full range integration v. good. I was a bit sceptical thinking that having just a bunch of bass drivers without the slot would be just as good, but now I'm wondering, the bass was so nice..
The slot has more WAF/SAF than 8 bass drivers visible, so a winner in that regard too IMHO

I sat with Jacco at dinner. A fun guy of course- as suspected, but also very pleasant. I guess his bouncer days are well behind him. At least he didn't throw me out of the restaurant!
What to say, for reasons beyond my comprehension i'm pretty fond of the guy.
(i'll deny anything in public)

I agree. The system seemed limited in SPL, but that's to be expected with a small open baffle arrangement. I thought the beast with a thousand jfets sounded fantastic on this speaker arrangement (my favorite amp of the day).
The beauty of the bass slot is that the baffle can be much narrower than if the woofers faced forwards. All in all, this experiment proved valuable and will remain etched in my thoughts for many years to come.
Since there's no A/B comparison, one can only speculate what other woofer arrangements might present.
