I have been modding my own gear for awhile now. I think It's about time I learnt how these things work.

Looks like this is very hard to find. Didn't want to pay £80 from Amazon.

My guess is that the only people who might want to sell their copy of H&H would either be those giving up the hobby, or those who bought it and then found it beyond them. Not many of either, so a limited number available second-hand.

Actually, I think Keith's referring to the John Linsley Hood Book, not Horowitz and Hill.
However, H&H (the art of electronics - note the missing 'linear') is probably easier to get hold of, and probably more useful for general information. I'd recommend it for a starting point over JLH (which is a very good read, but skips a lot of useful nitty gritty).

Thanks guy's. it is the JLH BOOK that I am after. It was recommended to me but I am open to suggestions for a good alternative.

Check out Powells bookstore online. It's located in downtown Portland Oregon and it's a great bookstore that has an entire city block dedicated to books and a technical book store across the street. They ship internationally.

A useful book, but not in the same league as H&H.

If you are starting from the very beginning then the book I would recommend is Foundations of Wireless and Electronics, by Scroggie and/or Amos (the author changed over the various versions). Then H&H, after that perhaps Doug Self.

Keep an eye on Amazon. Reasonably priced 2nd hand copies of JLH's book do turn up every now and then. I picked up a copy last year for just under 25 quid including postage. You do have to be patient.

H&H is a great book for engineers, but too much of the book is device physics for hobbyists and will be hard work if you don't have a strong maths background. JLH is light on theory, but very good on explaining the application of common electronic circuits
