The 15 Song Album collection:

I can see at least a couple of problems with this thread now.

The Perry tune I posted did not by any stretch of the imagination define reggae which had been around for a number of years on it's release. It did define the genre of Dub.

And the Donna Summer/Girgio Moroder tune that defined electronic disco was 'Love To Love Baby' released two or three years before 'I Feel Love'. Also nothing 'gay' about it.

I'll fix mine simply it is my post and I can't possibly leave it as it is because it is just wrong but I'll leave the other up to gassboss himself if he wants to fix it or not.
01 - 21st Century Schizoid Man - King Crimson (Prog Rock)
02 - Anarchy In The UK - Sex Pistols (Punk Rock)
03 - Walk This Way - Run DMC (Rock/Rap)
04 - Good Times, Bad Times - LZ (The Sound of Philadelphia)
05 - Interstellar Overdrive - The Pink Floyd (Drug Rock)
06 - Veteran Cosmic Rocker - Moody Blues (Doubtless on Drugs too)
07 - Ko-Ko - Charlie Parker (Jazz)
08 - Blackboard Jungle Dub - Lee 'Scratch' Perry (Dub)
09 - I Feel Love - Donna Summer And Giorgio Moroder (disco)
10 - Paper plane - Status Quo (3 Chord Rock)
11 - Rock Around The Clock - Bill Haley & His Comets

Except for the silly 'gay' comment of course.

Mr Darwin.
Just as you posted I was fixing an earlier post where Russc and I had posted at the same time, both using no 11.
You've inadvertently undone my fix and Russc's entry has been omitted again.

Here's the updated version

01 - 21st Century Schizoid Man - King Crimson (Prog Rock)

06 - Veteran Cosmic Rocker - Moody Blues (Doubtless on Drugs too)
07 - Ko-Ko - Charlie Parker (Jazz)
08 - Blackboard Jungle Dub - Lee 'Scratch' Perry (Reggae)
09 - I Feel Love - Donna Summer And Giorgio Moroder (Quite what we used to call, without aspersions, Gay...)
10 - Paper plane - Status Quo (3 Chord Rock)
11 - Roxette - Dr. Feelgood (Pub Rock)
12 - Rock Around The Clock - Bill Haley & His Comets (Rock and Roll)

I have recently seen a few YT videos about King Crimson's debut album and heard what I already know.
So a rather "free" theme;
Songs/music that defined/defines a genre.

01 - 21st Century Schizoid Man - King Crimson

The only thing about that is whatever the rest of us think, Robert Fripp flatly denies that this song, or indeed any other King Crimson recording is progressive rock.
Mind you, what does he know!

That song - 21st Century Schizoid Man - could somehow mark the beginning of hard rock or metal or whatever that noisy cra....:forbiddn: is called. But much of the music from the first album is so different from what was played back then and could be the beginning of progressive rock.
My interest in music was woken when I heard that song, because I had never heard anything like that before.

We can argue about every song on the list, but it will eventually boil down to our personal opinions, and that was my intention - what songs defines (for you) a (new) genre?

A quick dig in the archive suggests I am quite feeling about Miss Krall's good nights and bad nights... patrickblue. I still think that number was poor! :)

Happily I discovered I still own the Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" and many Jazzy "Peggy Lee" records on the search. Bit short on London Islington Pub Rock these days. But I was there. Ducks Deluxe were my thing.

I totally agree with you, and without exception, anyone with an interest in prog rock would too.
I'm only saying that Robert Fripp, who basically is King Crimson goes out of his way to disassociate KC from anything to to with the genre..

Due to a confusion of Musical Genres, it has been decided that the Genres of Country and Rap should be combined. Henceforth the Combined Genres will be known as Crap! :D

Boys! Boys! Behave, please. Personal opinions!

Not so much personal opinion but music historical fact.

If I had wanted to post the tune that defined reggae I would have chosen Toots & The Maytals 'Do The Reggay' from 1968 but I posted Lee Perry's 1973 release 'Blackboard Jungle' which defined the genre of Dub.

That 'gay' comment after the Donna Summer track is just a slur.
If it is a slur against gays, the song or the genre per se is neither here nor there but it is a stupid comment nevertheless.

I have to rectify, before my eyes get too displeased:
