... so super preamp has turned into a power hybrid
... in this latest version

:D just kidding
... But what is stopping you from uploading
... latest version of super preamp

... To me, it would not be more trouble
... than have to login to mailbox and send emails with attachments

!

Well, with hope that this won't disappoint you (there is no reason why it
should, because your design is excellent!), I know for very similar design
done about 6 years ago by Dr. Jagodic (boraomega on this forum). In recent
years, several people built flat = LINE preamps based on this schematic
(with minor mods) and it is one of better line preamps I heard so far.
Those designs on his WEB site are mostly his medium class designs but his
HighEnd designs he never published because of commercial reasons. Just few
close friends have access to that collection. Here is the schematic. Sorry
no components values, it will be unfair to Bora if I put values.

Because that Hybrid power amp schematic .jpg took about 50 minutes to "PrintScreen" multiple zoomed-in sections and then tediously put them all together using Microsoft Paint.
My schematic drawing program only saves files in *.SCH format, which can only be read by people with the same software.

I'll post the final schematic when I'm finished! At the moment I'm very busy laying out the PCB.

Cheers,
Glen

That's so close to my design it's not funny! Damn it! Every time I think I've designed something unique, I find that someone else has done it already! :bawling:

.

I wouldnt bother.
Because
In 1 minute I take a
Screen Capture

of any circuit in
any open program window
on my PC Screen

... with my image viewer editor freeware:
XnView.com Free download All languages

This has A Perfect Capture Tool that I use.

ARRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!

Lineup, if I zoom out so that it all fits into the screen, it looks like the files I've attached in this thread already - pretty much unreadable.

Cheers,
Glen

A quick peek-a-boo.

A very small section of the nearly finished preamplifier board. The component designators are currently all over the place, but I’ll tidy that up last of all, after adding the star point earthing scheme on the bottom layer.

Glen SmallSchmidt.

Your attchement is 'ONLY' 648x388 pixels, 101228 bytes
while you could make it like my screen: ~980 x 600
I understand you had to do it less than 102400 kByte

But you have to FIRST reduce and compress the image
(for example using Free http://www.xnview.com/ image converter-editor)

1 :) Change from 'True Colors' to maybe '256 colors'
or even change to 'Grey 256'
(this is black->white in 256 different shades of Grey)

The ultimate smallest color is 'Binary', see www.XnView.com Image converter menu!
Where only is All Black + all White pixels.
Bi= two, that is the file ha got '0' for black point, and '1' for white
and nothing in between.

2 :) Secondly, when you save the new version with less many colors.
You click Save As.
You click Options

In options for a JPG you can select compression level:
0-100%,
where 100% = full size, NO compression, BIG file
and I most often use something like 50%-75%, which gives much smaller file.

=============================================

Following these both option will make it possible
to create a very big size image = 980x 650 pixels
and still have small size file ... <100kByte

1. Reduce number of colors. Avoid True Colors. Try 256 colors first.
2. Resize image to good big size to fill screen in webbrowser ~960x600
3. Save As ... with Option Compression down to file size 50-70%

good luck
hope it helps
lineup
----- if I was with you at your PC friend G.Klein, I would show you how to -------

============================

this image was much reduced, from original more than 3072x2304 digital camera JPG
with file size ~3 Mbyte!!
to only: 506x480 jpg - 70167 bytes
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=1020142&stamp=1159861199

It is from a Topic with
very many images of Very Ugly Stuff people have built.
UGLY Looking Amp! - but good working

isnt it a pity
so many members do make such many ugly amplifiers & things
makes you feel a bit sick for christmas :xeye:

That's looking really good. I see you've used U404s rather than their SST versions... Is this a local availability thing?

I'm naughty, and often just leave designators off altogether with smaller stuff. I figure I can always print out a mudmap so that I can see what goes where.

Lineup, that's basically the window size in of my schematic drawing program. Even if the whole schematic was shrunk down to 1024 X768 it would still be rather crappy.

Thanks, and yes, the U404 are a Farnell part. I've also changed the cascode jfets to individual devices; SST201 (also from Farnell).

It probably would be a bit pedantic to keep all the designators and tidy them all up - I'll be etching this board myself after all :)

I see.
Guess you could post the full final schematic of Super Amp
at some website, later.
It would be nice to try to understand and explore your circuit
not only for me, I think.
If I get a PDF for download, I would try to make some images from it.
I might need 2 images to cover the whole amp circuit.

Have far has the practical testing come?
Are the boards made?

The design is finished but I haven't made anything yet. I've been doing home renovations over my summer break instead. I've totally redesigned my power amp too.

G'day Hartono.

Unfortunately I abandoned the design after deciding on a different approach for my power amp. I have a much better MKII version designed on paper and tested in spice for my 2kW A+ amp, but I just havent got enough time at the moment to get onto it, with all the other parts of the project still in the way.

It will eventually get described on my super amp page (with updates in the thread dedicated to that project):

G’day.

Attached below is a preliminary simulation of a fully differential preamplifier I’ve designed ......
----------------------
Simulation results so far look promising:
Single ended open loop gain is 72.9dB with the –3dB roll off point at 1.2MHz.
Open loop THD driving 8Vp-p (approx 2mVp-p single ended input) into 1000 ohms at 20kHz is just 0.034%
This thing is going to run with a closed loop gain of about 20.

I think I’ve pretty much optimised the design the best I can for the lowest THD. Before finalising the design and starting to layout the PCB I just though I’d just post the design here to see if anyone out there spot any obvious improvements.

Cheers,
Glen

GKlein.

how is this one coming on .. your superamp ?
we were several that were quite SHOCKED by this remarkable fully differetial hifi pre-amplifier
when you first TRIED TO publish it
( your old website is closed down now )

maybe this one went into some other of your projects :)
