Hi,
planning some serious OB similar to what studiotech did(see post #1252 in the OB gallery). Loving my BG Neo10, recently added Mundorf AMT 25D6.1-R. The RAAL dipol ribbon was impossible to get and quite $$$$$.

So MT and HT are set, baffe will be a copy of the above.
But which 15" bass driver to add? There will be 2x Rythmik Audio sealed 15", so I only need to reach down to around 60HZ. Upper crossover point would be around 250-300Hz, so MMS shouldnt be too high. Think I prefer the lower QTS drivers to real OB specialists.
Crossover is a DEQX HDP-5.

Acoustic Elegance is far too expensive here in Europe. I was thinking Beyma 15P80ND, but never saw them in an OB config.

Any recommendations based on experience or speculation?
Cost no object (well, almost).
Any fancy BMS, B&C, 18sound ....?
thx

I listened it in Oris Swing.

You asked for cost no object ob woofer - BD 15 is just that. It is based on previous version of Beyma 15LW30 that had Mms of 83gr (newer version is about 99gr and not as good imo).

Very high Sd/Mms ratio (north of 12cm² per gram) is interesting and useful only if you plan to use it in the higher frequencies.

There is no need to sacrifice Xmax and Fs if you plan to cross at 300hz or so. Especially not with a DEQX!

Why not buy something that is able to multitask ? I'm not talking about BD15 now but in general. There are no such thing as sacrifice of Xmax or Fs - there is just suitable and unsuitable usage. If it measures and sounds good, then it is justified.

As for BD15 - i'd rather go for Beyma. It is much more sensible choice. But when someone asks for "almost cost no object" for whatever reason, i deliver :)

I suggested three more woofers though.

Since you're well equipped with a DEQX, an educated-guess here:

You'd prefer the 15FH500 or 15PR400 over the BG neo10 up to 400-600hz @ 300db/oct linear phase.

Since you can switch and compare easily with the DEQX, you can try it. I put my money on the Faital's 15 inchers.

Hi Jon, thanks for your educated guess, I will give it a try once my test baffle with the choosen 15" Bass is in place. I figured already that the NEO10 has some issues in the 200-300 range, I might just try 400 and 500 xo..

Still hesitating to follow your FaitalPro recommendation. Perhaps its psycholgy, they are too cheap or so:rolleyes:. On the other side my experience bying based on the highest price gave me no good experience.
What I like with the Beyma 15P80nd is the cone mix of paper and carbon.

Perhaps I try them both, should be easy to sell after a short test.
cheers

If you have any hesitation regarding Faital Pro, then go for the 15FH500. You just can't go wrong, really. Well designed, well built, great specs.

That one, right?

According to what i see (never tested that one but i sure can imagine) the sweet spot of that one, the ''filet mignon'', is between 700hz and 10khz, which basically means that's a midrange...

I'm just throwing suggestion here, based on my experience (especially with the great tool the DEQX is), what i'd personnaly do is:

12PR300
FaitalPRO | LF Loudspeakers | 12PR300

+
RAAL 140-15D (which would completely replace the BG neo 10)

Crossover points of 70hz & 2khz @ 300db/oct.

I wouldnt use that combination without a DEQX (300db/octave) though... But with it, you'd be amazed how such an unusual recipe could work well.

You have to put money where it counts. You're well started with the DEQX and sealed boxes with 15's for sub-bass. Now, good tweeters that can be crossed low are expensive. There is no way to avoid that, unfortunately.

Save money on the midrange and put it on the tweeter, that is a better investment, IMO.

And then, if you're ready to go to the next level, ask DEQX for the digital output option and run a multi-way DAC from Forssell.
forsselltech.com

Then you'll probably have among the finest equipement money can buy. ;)
