Ribon tweeters
HI ALL.
I was wondering if there is anyone who build a speakers with seas g18rnx/p and some ribon tweeters......
as i am by building these speakers, and still strugling with tweeters... i am investing a lot time in cabinet design, so the choice of a tweeter is a bit of dilemma...i preffer crisp but earfriendly (smooth????? ) heights..... ( a havent heard ribons yet... )
If yous have any suggestions, i would appriciate it.
When some progres is done, i will post pics, as only thing i have now are templates for cabinets. The shape will be curved cabs and a multiplate sendwich construction ( approx 27pcs of 15mm MDF ).
Thanks

LMAO @ porn site link.
anyway... I built some with the Seas C18RNX.
However, after building these I would use the Hi-Vi RT8-II if I had my time again. I think that is the tweeter you should use.

It will work to a decently low Xover point of around 2KHz (not quite as low as they say) and also has quite directive highs which should give you a smoother top end sound since you will get a slightly falling power response.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

compare it with this one

one problem with many small ribbons is that they dont go very low in frequency, unless if they are the bigger ones, and they are mostly of higher sensitivity, and I coulnt get myself to mate a 95db tweeter with a 85db woofer
so I would consider double 8" with a bigger ribbon that goes low and get the advantage of the higher sensitivity and better power handling

I am also working on a project with a ribbon tweeter. LCY series.

hooha said:The Hi-Vi RT8-II is a very capable tweeter. I'm surprised that there aren't more projects out there using this unit. I am using them now and am very impressed with the sound quality.

Nice to hear, I thought they looked tasty.
I think what turns people off of this unit is how Parts Express markets it. They mention the need of a supertweeter to augment the top end. I find RT8 top end to be sufficient and will be posting some response curves of my own in the future.
That, plus they look nice..

hi all.work started today, some mdf plates already cut.i've used a router for the first time today, its very easy.i thought i'd be lost, but its easy as .....
here is a PC generated pic of mid/bass enclosure.
I decided to use BG Neo8 and activ Xo, so there will be changes in the future (swap Neo for something else, or add Neo3....who knows...)
more to come......
P.S.: where in Uk can i get some aluminium sheet, lets say 8"x11"x1"
thanks guys

Hi-Vi Supplier
I suggest having a word with IPL if you are looking for any HiVi drivers, they may not have it in stock but could probably order some in if you front up a small deposit.
It can't hurt to ask.
Nick.
