Hi,
Baffle step appears minimal but its great value - easily worth it for
the bits if you want to mess about with the crossover and turn it
into a genuine freefield mini, otherwise its more AV bookshelf.
Sealed volume is as always flexible. Vented ~10L Tuned 40 to 55 Hz.
(possibly not bad as the top section of a budget 3-way either .....)

Can you suggest an L1 value to get an appropriate BSC level ?
Hi,
Not really without modelling it at least.

Passive Crossover Designer is easier than speaker Workshop.
Generally the main inductor is around 2 to 3 mH, but you
would have to play around with the other c/o values.

The Recession Buster, that's hilarious! What next, the Depression Smasher?
Kidding aside, this does look like an excellent value. I would at the very least tip one of those inductors on it's side though. This kit would be good use as near field monitor, or perhaps some surround speakers in a budget Home Theatre.

echosystm - Madisound came back to me with shipping to Downunder..
1 Kit:
FedEx (3-7 days, full tracking info) = $62.00
or
USPS Express Mail (4-10 days, limited tracking info) = $65.55
or
USPS Priority Mail (1-2+ weeks, limited tracking info, no refunds) = $58.20
2 Kits:
FedEx (3-7 days, full tracking info) = $92.00
or
USPS Express Mail (4-10 days, limited tracking info) = $109
or
USPS Priority Mail (1-2+ weeks, limited tracking info, no refunds) = $98
Maybe we should start a Downunder group buy for this?

If we all lived in the same city it might be worth it, but I think the domestic shipping would cancel out the international shipping savings?
Why plate?
A Faraday cage is a Faraday cage, so why is plate needed?
Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to simply glue al-foil to the inside of the box before you fixed any blanket/damping/etc.?
cheers

Re: Why plate?
Al foil doesn't affect the magnetic flux, does it?. It needs to be ferrous.

Hi,
Niether driver is shielded. As stated a speaker can be shielded
with galvanised / tin plate. I recall Infinity making a miniature
with damping layer / internal steel plate / mdf exterior.
Note that I'm not suggesting they need re-designing , this is
only for the truly serious. The typical Baxandall bass tone
control used in moderation will fix any bass balance issues.
Might as well throw in the maximum sensible volume,
which is around 14 Litres / 0.5cuft tuned around 44Hz.
A slim angled back baffle floorstander would be possible.
Sound quality to expect ? Search on "swifty" here which covers
another madisound cheapo special and make your own mind up.

The inductor placement issue looks like it will need a chisel
to get the smaller inductor away from the board. Turn in
onto one edge and then reglue back to the board.

I'm not suggesting this as a serious option as I am not familiar enough with either the amplifier or the little woofer, but Madisound do a 2-way plate amp with a LR4 XO at 3000Hz.
As mentioned in this post

What would this combination be like as a powered studio monitor and does it represent value compared to those already in the market??
