Post your Solid State pics here

"Anal" amp.

Finally got the "beast" fully done ...
Screwed up on my first build post - outputs to one side and a control board
that took up too much space.

(attachment 1) - "guts"
Grounding with a 35A bridge ground loop breaker - most silent amp I ever heard.

(attachment 2) - Full top view
That smaller AC/inrush/ speaker protection PCB allowed for ALL the "dirty"
works to be right over the trafo. SS relays are front right with the white wires
(amp outputs) - Infineon 180A units X 2.

(attachment 3) - front view
Not too big - about the same as the H/K680 it replaced but weighs 25KG !!

Listening impressions - the Harmon 680 is audibly inferior and definitely dynamically
inferior. My pioneer SX series classic amp is a joke (barn amp now) :D .
The only amp that comes close is the HK990 , but this even has a bit more
"grunt" than even that did.
I repaired a 990 but could never afford one - now I have something that actually
beats it ! DIY rules !! :):)

Are all the thermal issues solved now?

I can hook 2 pair speakers parallel and shake the house all day - just warm...
but not too hot to touch (50C?) . Outputs ALL stay 14-16mv (60+ma), no
matter what I do .

ALL issues solved - very well behaved. :)
PS - the Chinese extrusions seem to have slightly less conductivity than pure
"virgin" Heatsink USA extrusions. More like roadsign Al/Mg alloy.
Mount your devices right in the middle on the "recycled beercan" chinese stuff. :D

I've got mine all remachined to mount in the center but too hung over to finish it today.

Ohhh ! Alcohol stabilizers in the corporate "swill" . Moonshine gives NO
hangover . That's why the religious here fought to keep it banned so long -
There is no "price" to pay ! :D

Do yours like mine (or similar) and you just won't believe it's upper limit
(and "ghost sounds") - the kids were hearing movie sounds they never heard
before on their favorite titles. :)
Ha - the "spookyamp" puts out ghost sounds - ironic.

That is COOL as hell , man !!:cool:

I wish I had a simple amp like that to do that with .

Glass cover and LED's would be a good touch !!

OS

Cover is in the pipe line. LED is part of the speaker protection relay you can see sticking out in between the the amps.

I am building up to bigger things like your Beast. Nice work!

it is at least obvious that people that originate from tube amplifiers will take enormous amounts of time and effort to understand how modern transistors work .......

Small VSHA update, no sparks, no explosion and I am alive (huh) !!
Nearly fully furnished, just cosmetic job left..

The background light is RED when amp is heating up (protect relay OFF), after 15-20s the background light is WHITE (protect relay ON). Bargraph is based on standard LM3915 aplication.

Few phone made postcards and movie :D

May the force be with YOU !!

More postcards soon...

A giant amplifier!
congratulations:)

I can't guess what amp that is ! What is it ?
Looks great ! ;)

Thanks , I'm only beginning to unleash it's full potential.

My PC's smps was putting some garbage into it. The amp itself is
silent , but I could hear HF and some buzz. A straight PC
connection sucks !
Does not do this on my CD player ...
Temporary jensen audio trafo to isolate makes the soundstage just
get "eerie".
Ultimately , a full optical Toslink + DAC (this amp deserves it).

PS - you don't know ? Slewmonster with a leach front end (spooky).
But , tomorrow it might be another forum amp (modular) ... just plug
it in .
Edit - next "victim" is the "Beast" sub amp (below) I want that lowest
octave !!

My Slewmonster is finally ready for a test run.

I knew your milling skills were impressive ... WOW

Borys - a single Vbe for a combined driver heatsink setup. Simple 2 x vbe reverse
co-efficient .... but relatively "slow"

The Slew is two separate Vbe's/heatsinks , the driver one will "second guess" the main
outputs Vbe and overcompensates the driver co-efficient until the outputs can
"catch up". HK was brilliant in this design , sort of a"poor man's thermaltrak.

I ran the big Daytons today - 1812 overture hit Xmax on the woofers - need that sub!
Dang ports are messing up my hair...
