Hello Nigel

I´m from Sao Paulo city. I found heatsink suppliers, HS Aluminio: http://www.hsdissipadores.com.br/
and Dissitec: http://www.dissitec.com.br/catalogo.html
but they offer natural finish only. Could you please inform where did you get those nice black sinks?

If not too late you may want to improve to toroidal trafos you could quote a custom made from Toroid do Brasil:
http://www.toroid.com.br/taudiotransist.html

I´m aware about your complaints on buying componets in this country. DIY audio is almost insane hereabouts. I found all components I needed importing from Digikey, Welbornelabs, Michael Percy, Borbely Audio and Aquablue. Packs deliverd at my door without taxes and stuff.

Hope this helps. Cheers

Hi JC. The heatsinks are from Franab, in Santo Amaro;

http://www.franab.com.br/

Buying from them was a good experience and I am happy to recommend them.

I don't think I'll worry about upgrading to a toroid for this amp - the PSU I made from the eight EI trafos is heavy, but works very well. On the other hand that link will definitely come in handy in the future - many thanks!

I think maybe I'll buy from Digi-key next time, if you weren't hit for import taxes. (Or maybe one ofthe other places you suggest). I have been charged them buying from Mouser, Ampslab, diyparadise and a couple of non-diy sources. I would love to understand why sometimes I get charged taxes and sometimes not....

Cheers

Many thanks for the hint. Realy I´ve never heard about Franab.

I never get charged taxes, at least in SP city. There´s a Customs Inspector working at local Post Office Center who sets packs or evelopes free to delivery. This man is trained or minded to pick gifts, home or PC electronics (DVD decks, Ipods, cells phones, etc.) He has not a sparse trace of clue on what to do with a Mundorf Silver Oil Capacitor. :D

Cheers again

Here in Brasilia they don't seem to care about what is in the package - if the customs form says "TRANSISTORS" and gives a value of $21 then they add the $7 postage and charge 70% of the total.... The only thing I have got through recently without being charged was a tiny Alien DAC kit which came in the smallest padded envelope available and had no customs form at all....

You know, it is possible that Sao Paulo has so much more volume of post of this type that diy stuff just gets overlooked. Brasilia is a much smaller market in this sense.

Cheers
