Magnetostats are also very interesting but you will need an amp that can deliver like the Acoustat TNT 200.
Maybe you can try building a small HV amp first using PL81 tubes as these can handle 7KV as well.
Once you had a small success it will give you more confidence in trying a more complex one.
Actually a ESL works also fine with lower voltages only with less SPL.

The output transformer is a Tamura F-2011. Power transformer is a Plitron 854710-02. I can't seem to find it anymore on Plitron's website. It was one of the standard power transformers they had for Menno Vanderveen's amp designs.

Paint looks great, but it does get a bit toasty...not extremely though. Output transformer is Tamura F-2011

I put here few pictures with my last project, buffer with 8CG7 and MM phono stage with PCF 802.

It was needed a source selector and a buffer with a good sounding tube. The MM phono stage is with PCF802 ....it was a big surprise for me how this tube sounds.
