some other opinions could be helpful ?

read posts 15 & 26, sounds very promising for the 15" but these drivers need to be broken in adequately before you can make judgements: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/full...project-audio-nirvana-15-a-2.html#post1915410

positive comments on 8" although bass-shy: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/full-range/210459-audio-nirvana-15-experience.html

read posts 5 & 9 are positive on 15" in OB: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/full-range/186557-audio-nirvana-15-experience.html#post2563707

some interesting results from cabinet modifications on the 15": My Audio Nirvana 15" Neo's

this guy's had the 15"'s for a couple of years, quite pleased, see post 19, and in post 21 somebody with positive results who says they have compared with a large collection of other full range drivers: Audio Nirvana Super 15 cast frame speakers - Page 2 - AudioKarma.org Home Audio Stereo Discussion Forums

Melon, those 3 drivers on the same baffle is overkill. You should just use one 15" per baffle

Hahahahahaha
Yeah. I under estimated how good they are.
I didn't want to buy a single pair of speakers and be disappointed with the result.
I am extremely happy with these speakers.
The good thing is I can experiment with so many ideas now, it will keep me busy for quite a while. :D
I am also considering building a cabinet for dual 10 Neos and use the Radian 475pb for tweeter. If it works out I would buy another pair of 10 Neos

These are bloody awesome speakers. The 15s just kick butt. They just bloody work. No need for eq correction. So simple even I can make them work.

Well all I can say is: At $400 a pair, the super 15 cast frame has got to be the best bargain in audio. I am not going to say how much I would be willing to pay for them because Dave might increase the price. :D

Melon Head,

It's so nice to read about the fun you are having - we all get to ride along ! did you try comparing the AN15" in the baffle verses free-standing (hanging from the ceiling maybe) - I expect the bass will be different but I'm curious if without a baffle there are some benefits from lack of baffle resonances etc. ? and how much power do these things need - are they valve/tube friendly ?

I have not had a chance to directly compare the 15s in and out of baffle in the one evening. The initial impression was very impressive, when played just on the floor without baffle. The 10 Neos had extreme bass roll off without baffle, but not the 15s. I took measurements and found that max dynamic music peaks of around 1.5V. So only using a fraction of a Watt. I reckon anything around 4Watts or higher is plenty of overhead. Even 2Watts might be Ok

It all sounds good so far and I'm seriously considering one of these in an OB myself.

My main concerns with the AN15's are:

a) their ragged trebble response. I'm quite sensitive to peaks here, especially when caused by cone breakup. My Fostex FE127's are pretty bad for that. When I first got them they just sounded detailed, it took awhile for me to get past my initial infatuation - the emperors new clothes. I've read that the AN12's are also bad: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/full...t-audio-nirvana-super-12-a-3.html#post3086131 However, the AN15's appear to be much better. Did you have anybody else listen to them, an independent opinion ?:)

b) their off-axis response; I can't remember ever finding measurements ?

I can't comment on the AN 12 because I have not personally heard them.
I can only comment on the AN15 super cast frame and the AN10 Super Neodymium.
I also have the Seas Full Range, Scanspeak drivers (9500 tweeter), Radian 475pb compression driver.
The AN15 do not sound fatiguing, harsh, or unnaturally detailed.
The one thing that stands out, is on very good recordings it honestly sounds like you have performers playing live in your room. Instruments, and voice, sounds as realistic as I have ever heard.
I need more time to compare them properly with everything that I have, but I should say since purchasing these I have stayed up to 5am listening to music on a few occasions. My wife who does not own one cd is now interested in listening to music, before this I was more interested in building amps than listening to music, because I have been playing in and out of bands for 20 years and not much excites me anymore. I have heard it all before. These speakers make me excited to listen to music again
Honestly, at $400 a pair you can't find a better bargain in audio.

This sounds even more encouraging :D

By the way - by "off-axis" I mean the treble in particular. Believe it or not, I'm going to be using a single speaker - yes, mono. No I don't live in a cave without running water - I actually want to make a giant kitchen radio! It will be used to 'full the house with sound' so there isn't much point having a stereo pair as there won't be any place to listen to them in stereo. So that is why I was wondering if you listen to one driver only, when you walk around a little, does the treble disappear ? - the Apollo OB speakers I made once used an old vintage driver that 'beamed' noticeably in the treble.
