I'll have a look with a magnifying glass but do not have a scope. Thanks.Ok, so it's somewhere in the mainboard. It could be something nasty like a broken track or a bad solder joint. As you last worked on the decoder area, it's likely the error is in that section. A scope would be very handy at this point...

OK, good tip. I won't get a chance before the weekend. Thanks for your helpAnother tip if nothing is obvious is to run fresh solder onto the pads you have already soldered and apply a small amount of pressure onto the leg of the component. This sometimes highlights a broken track by the pad moving slightly.

Anyone know where the 63 KI's were made???
I've got one on eBay at the moment and I've been asked where it was made. I'm just wondering what the relevance might be. i.e. MKI's uk and MKII's Japan????? just a guess!
If anyone can shed some light, i'd be very gratefull!
cheers, Ian

IIRC, CW is current up, CCW is current down. But you'll notice soon enough. Just give the trimmer a slight nudge and see what happens. A normal CD will work fine, but make sure you are not in a silent passage. The actual pattern is more blurry and noisy, that's normal. Use a decent scope probe and no unscreened leads.

No, that won't make any difference. The HF signal amplitude remains the same. Don't use a CD-R, they are less reflective, only use an original CD. It will help to have one that is not curved, otherwise the signal will be quite wobbly and it will be difficult to set the required amplitude.
Have you cleaned the lens and the metal guide rod yet?

Yeah, I got that part.
If you want to mod the player for digital-out only, you can leave out the mods for the DAC and analog section. I would recommend upgrading the power supply and the area around the servo, drivers and decoder. The digital signal is produced by the decoder, so it's not required to upgrade anything after that.

Hi Ray
Great. I have already done the quite a lot of mod around the analog section like Black gate and silve mica caps around the HDAM, RCA post NX BG coupling. Walt Jung super regulator for 5V supply. Tent clock etc.
Must admit that I am not so familiar with servo, driver and decoder section
I will greatly appreciate it if you can give a few pointers
Thanks and best regards

Have a look at the modifications lists on my website, there you'll find all the mods listed per section.
