Marantz CD63 & CD67 mods list

salut! We'll stick to English? 6OO pages will keep you very busy! Somewhere here-in you will find pictures too. About 7 pages backwards "Brent" gave an address in the UK where to order the laser block from. I did it. Not expensive and great service but be ready for a seriously bad time changing it. If you know someone who is very patient and steady and has the experience for this, get them! It's all a good learning experience and fun too hear what happens as this player wakes up becomes a whole other creature.

Actually when I ordered my VAM1201/1202 it came with all the wires AND the plug onto the mainboard . Just whipped out the old one and plugged in the new one. 10 mins.

Hi again guys!

2 mins! ok i will try to break out this record! Maybe i will need a coach ;)
So the laser is a VAM 1201 or 1202?
I know i can find it in this "War and Peace"'s CD 63 post but i must admit that i was a bit lazy last night.
Thank you Malefoda for the link. Maybe a first step in french will be more easy for me!
Do you know where i can find photos for these primary mods?

Have a nice day

So it took me 3 hours! so I look really BAD! but I think you guys changed out the whole rig, sled and all. Right? Hey I could have done that too in 5. Now let's get real and just change the laser block with it's 6 tiny wires, and those ghastly rubber suspension things. If you're really good, and figure out the Chinese puzzle, say 1 hour?

No, in ten minutes, just like Brent says. Just the laser block, including the six wires AND the suspension thingies! You just need more practise LOL :D. Try and replace the optical pick-up only, that's also a nice practice.

R Core TX and AD8599

So I'm very willing to use famous R Core TX for 5V supplies. Do you have any comment on these?
http://www.selectronic.fr/article.asp?article_ref_entier=70.2051-9999

Also any other tests of the AD8599? I've mine but I'm a bit lazy to remove the LM4562 as I've no sockets... and also have to remove the AD8620 from the BD before... so much work!

Thanks!

(Shepp if I order you some AD8599 will you review them for us?)

That's enough laser porn!

This made me grin. Not the article, their reaction to it. I wonder what they'd make of us lot...:D

Bunch of idiots, very typical of these forums. Here's the sort of comment that makes me angry:

"File this one alongside the "magic solder" and $500 AC power cords"

Clueless to$$er! He can keep his Matsui mini system and I will continue to enjoy the sound which is faithful, in part, due to using good caps.

Then a clown says at the end,

"Anyway that linked article is pure rubbish. What he should have done is a simple THD test on a bunch of C-R highpass filter as shown above with the various different capactior types (while of course keeping the cutoff frequency a constant)."

I totally agree of course, because harmonic distortion is the only thing that matters. Really, I mean, what do you want to do, listen to the music? No, I didn't think so. Let's measure a sine wave, yay! That's good work. I should play more 1khz sine waves, that's called "science".

Ok bed time.

Worse than idiots! "humble" is a very smart serious guy who's put a lot of time in this, to say nothing of his speaker designs.
There will always be phillistines, ignore them I say. Anyway we need them to repair fridges and build better waffle irons. The" Bose Boys":devilr:

Of course! (dip) but would you really believe a man who takes three hours to change a laser block??? The LM's are slowly slowly opening up.I listened to a Shakti cd last night with the light out and my Trends turned up high. Sounded a lot like music to me:)
Thanks for the photo but I need to see the bottom of the board!
I'm too dumb to figure it out otherwise (you still trust my ears?)
To be honest I really hate these endless burn-in times. That's all I'm doing lately...waiting. But nothing will stop me from being a willing participant (in spite of it being utter nonsense...i mean a guy who listens to opa amps and caps and wire....a real nutter)

One word - Philistines

No Two - Ignorant

I take pride in my ok knowledge of electronics and how a component and components work together. Audio is another matter again, it's a constant learning curve where every component changes the sound in some way or degree.

With electronics you MUST keep an open mind and only judge once you have tested for yourself. Anyone who does not do this must surly not appreciate the finer side of audio and as Simon says listen to a matsui or alba etc

The motto of the day is "Only trust them who have 'GENUINELY' tried new things".

Tomorrows motto is "All Philistiens are noobs"

Hilarious. How do you set the cutoff freq without using...more capacitors. Presumably a cheap one, because it's 'good enough' Or maybe... 'using a curve in cooledit, via any soundcard.'

... oh yeah, the %THD result from this 'simple' test will depend entirely on the bandwidth of the measurement... think about it...
