What has my reading of your website got to do with the fact that you are the only person who couldn't work out who Bradley was?

Figure it out... DOH!

You've got it bass-ackwards, laddie!
not only that but ur still got that attitude working hard.

told ya, sonny, the clue is in my website (not that it matters, but you are like a dog with a ******* bone...).

Border collies, at least the UK blood lines, make lousy pets. Great sheepdogs, but get bored way too easily if not working. Next door has two that were rescue dogs, both loopy. They've worn away the grass in a circle where they just run round and round. I feel sorry for them.
Although I haven't been back since, having little in common with either my brother besides some genetic material, or his wife, I didn't blame the dog. It had the semblance of a yard but not anything like the territory not the herdable denizens, and it was ill-suited for the role of the household pet.

End of relevant section.

Optional soiled laundry section: actually, I suspect it picked up on a residual dislike on the part of the wife for me, ever since my brutally-honest brother told her in the early days that I believed her to be pursuing him in order to stay in the country (I later decided that they were quite deserving of each other). Craig was given to commencing an entirely-unnecessary disclosure by saying Well I suppose I should tell you that...

WHY? I don't need to know this, and having been told it, you will anticipate my response, which, based on your policy and past history, you will waste no time in repeating to the involved parties to NO ONE'S BENEFIT.

I'm inclined to side with Curl on the plurality of realities, ultimately. However, for doing science, there is a consensus reality that has worked pretty well for engineering, and which a very large number of results has been obtained. So if your audio equipment cannot be validated at some level in consensus reality, I think there is a problem.

One must ask Why Audio? Why don't we have these radical departures in other fields that suggest multiple realities, nay demand them, to make sense of these intensely-held but disparate beliefs? And perhaps there will be a satisfactory answer emerging in time.

At some point in time, that i would put after 1975 or so, it became obvious that individuals and little firms, as skilled as they could be, couldnt rival deep pockets corporates like the Yamaha, JVC and other Pioneer, so a lot of people in the US, Europe and even Japan sought some other "metrics" to differentiate their designs from big brands ones that were about impossible to beat using the usual and recognized testing methods.

From here we got numerous stories of highly distorting amps that were deemed to sound better than ppmesque ones, as well as an never ending debate about infinitesimalities that suddenly became the end of all, the cables being in good place in those variable geometries argumentations..

No
Any explanation for how battery charging and then disconnecting (if that's what you meant) gets the goodness into the audio chain.
Hi Scott, you have it correct, and no I have no real idea of why, same with the flash memory same differences.
I am waiting for a local uni physics prof to get back from holidays, perhaps he can help to get to the bottom of what's going on.
Suffice to say, a bunch of other people hear the differences, so it ain't me day tripping.
The clean filters on guitar cable and guitar amp Ac power sounds magical, and I can further bend the sound to 'party' sound at will......adds a bit of dirt that sounds musically cool..... especially after sharing some of that same kind of 'dirt' ; ).

What Richard Heyser said to me directly, (and probably others): "If 2 or more people can hear an audio difference, it is REAL!"
Our measuring equipment is limited to CONSTANT LEVEL, low number of individual test frequencies at one time, SYMMETRY, and perhaps a number of other properties IGNORED by REAL MUSIC. Richard Heyser also told me that the fact that our test equipment is made of the SAME sort of parts as what we are measuring, a test signal that would upset an audio stage, would also upset the measurement equipment gain stage (more or less) and so a really good test 'waveform' is almost impossible to use for testing. For further info, look into the Hirata Audio test from about 1980, in the AES Journal, etc. Hirata's test box output was relatively crude, BUT it does give results that are missed by harmonic or IM tests, no matter what the sensitivity. Perhaps we should look into this.

This reminds me of people who want to listen to media of a certain period through equipment typical of that period. I knew a late composer/professor who found this a convenient indulgence.

Meanwhile a frustrating client is attempting to get Rupert Neve to design him a phono preamp. I am told I will chat with the man in time.

In high school a tightly knit group of us were passing around a copy of Southern's Candy. I learned more synonyms for female genitalia that year than ever before. Candy's letters from her aunt Livia (if memory serves) were particularly hilarious. Alas propriety forbids my reproduction from memory of some of the salacious material here. I suppose I could do it in the manner of the Kronhausens' epic Pornography and the Law, in which each obscene word is rendered as (slang for ____), which as a teenager was obscene enough for me.

Lots of thoughts.

I use a 6 around 1 super cable, each wire is 13 mils diameter (.013 inch). The cable will run about 1,200 amps easily. But if we run the di/dt above 1/2 amp per second, the conductor will quench at 6/7th of it's capacity. Below that fraction, I can run any di/dt I want. But above it, slow is the word. The user could just turn on a 1 kilo amp supply and run it full in a quarter second. But that last 1/7th must be slow. All of this is due to skinning, the six outer wires see the exact same neighbors so all act the same, but the center wire is symmetrically surrounded so acts differently from the six. Exactly the same thing a normal wire sees at frequency.
A Litz to solid transition will finish redistribution in about 3 to 5 wire diameters.

For rapid cycling magnets running one to two tesla, the half inch square conductors will be more affected by proximity effect, especially where the magfield concentrates. Big concern with ir losses due to that.

John

In amongst the other stuff, this info has been fascinating John -- thanks for sharing bits of your world!

It is an unfair question in that it shows that all past explanations have been ignored. That's disrespectful and frankly, rather stupid.

Of course you can challenge the vast existing and widely accepted understanding of how perception works. Be my guest, we can only learn.

But that's not what he did, he just ignored what didn't fit his agenda.

Jan

Sorry Jan, don´t want to be offensive, but it seems that you are pretending to know that your answer is the _correct_ one. How could you know that?
Am i missing something?
