Christophe,
So the question then would be in a fuse link application how you would size the link of one of those materials so that it would fail at the required current draw? It actually sounds like it could be a practical application if a buss type fuse was developed with a material with a constant resistive value. But I didn't do the math that I saw below with the value to the -5 exponent so perhaps again just more than overkill in an audio circuit.

I believe the simplest way would be to try various wire diameters with constant current sources ?
This said, i do not like fuses on power rails, it is better to use an active protection circuit. Faster, self rearming if you want and more efficient to protect against more defects or dangers and less negative effects on the sound. John will be happy to use silver or gold plated relays. For once, it will make sens.

Sounds like someone needs to sit back, take a little peyote and rethink the universe! I see that they are rethinking the scale of quantum mechanics and who knows what is going to come out of the super collider once the energy goes up. Beam me up Scotty..........

I heard the LHC is going to be fired up again and this time they hope to get the beam energies equal to a 747 in full flight.

Here's one for John Curl, Carver Mead of Cal Tech on the state of science at the ISSCC this year. We snicker whan JC says this stuff, but here's a top scientist pointing out how Heisenberg laughed at the idea of the laser and then elaborating on the point.

Chip daddy Mead: 'A bunch of big egos' are strangling science ? The Register
Yep I posted an account of this on Facebook and also commented in a thread that followed the original post somewhere. I mentioned on FB that at one time you couldn't be friends with both Carver and Bill Middlebrook. Mead was the softer and subtler and William the hard-nosed power electronics specialist etc. He has since left the building, but it's nice to see CM carrying on.

It's reassuring to know that fundamental physics work may be faltering at the academic level, but good solid advances are still occuring in the speaker wire companies' laboratories. Physics is being rewritten as we speak.

Thanks,
Chris

And Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine are revolutionizing test methodologies in audio, by pioneering the abandonment of white lab coats and clipboards, as well as in JI's case, listening to headphones a block and a half away (see his lengthy interview in the audio journal of record, Rolling Stone).
