Is this a good way to simulate the sound of tubes??

A solid state amp that comes close to a good tube amp like 300B is in my experience the current dump circuit from Quad. They are strong in the mid/low section and produces 'music'. To add some 'distortion' i added a carbon composite resistor in serie of the signal.

Lookup AC30SIM by Stephen Moeller. It's not available online anymore but you might try to contact mr. Moeller by e-mail.
It is a complete simulator of VOX AC30 consisting of preamp stage, power amp stage (both with different freq. response and different distorition characteristics) and passive LC speaker simulator.
It really rocks and sounds like a real tube-amp.

Simple circuits like those seen above will never sound like a tube amp - unless one replace the solid state devices with tubes.
