Why I did it? Do you really want to know why? I'll tell you all the important details: I'm not a cabinet-maker! I have very good, exotic wood, stored somewhere. Some weeks ago I went to talk with the local carpenter to see if he could make me a box with my wood. After our little chat both of us weren't feeling oh too happy. He thinking I was an *******; me thinking that his rude manners needed some taming and that the atmosphere was to dusty for my liking.

More info: this chassis is huge for a preamp, yep, that's what it's for. I have these over-sized parts (iron and poly caps ) and I never use them because I want my chassis to be cute - you're not cure if you weight too many pounds.
So I thought I would buy a cheap chassis just to try them out - see if they were worth the space and tonnage. If this boats sinks it will sink without pretty wood to waste. If it sails like the wind then I'm in trouble, because there's no way I can live with this crap on my living room.

there's an ocean of difference between your carpenter and the cheap Chinese labor.......now i understand where you are coming from.....

good luck to you.......;)

No, because I think it would be a waste of time. Besides, shipment fee was almost as expensive as the chassis itself. I wasn't expecting high quality but this is, as you say, not acceptable. Lesson learned (my mistake), telling it like it is and showing it to other DIYers and that's it.

Cassiel, in all fairness, I think you should give this vendor a shot at repairing the situation by getting in touch with him. You could even link to this post. He might be a well intending business man that doesn't deserve blacklisting.

If he gets you another chassis, we know that and might benefit from the great prices he has to offer.

I wouldn't do that, this chassis was intentional. Order 6 more chassis, I bet they are all the same quality. They make crap as cheap and easy, with whatever materials they want. The country is capable of quality (iPad), but if there is no parent company supervising them......

This is the same country that still puts lead in your kids toys to this very day and only stop when they are caught.

I think it's a fine example. Way to many threads start with "Cheap eBay tube amp?"

Normally I would agree with you %100.

there are good stuff

i have to say that most of the parts they sell are very low cost compared to others, specially tube sockets...
--------
if you are willing to pay, there are good stuff. those CMC tube sockets are very decent. however if you look at those amps from high end manufacturers, many of them only use a dollar or two tube socket from China.

I think he knows what he's selling. I also have to say that I ordered this chassis with parts. The difference in price was too small so I did it. Frankly, these binding posts, RCA plugs, power switch and AC power socket look pretty good for the price. Shipment was fast too. They sell crappy chassis, that's all. It's not the end of the world. Well, now you know. Buy from them if you like but don't buy their wooden chassis, I would also be very wary of buying metal chassis from them. I might be wrong though.

As you can see it's got nothing to do with the shipment. Mind you, it is surprising it survived the long trip with so little protection. Those minor imperfections are all over the chassis, I just post a few. I also post a picture showing the chassis from some distance, it kinda looks good from afar.

Your last picture shows "Spain 539201" on the parcel cover :p

I also bought a few items from this vendor and I was very satisfied with it. I bought those black aluminum cases which are 12.5$/piece and they have very solid aluminum finish, not so prone to the scratches. Also I bought IEC, CMC Ag RCAs, binding posts which were all made with good quality. Later on today I will post some pictures.

Best Regards,
Ales

I'm making my own!

So everyone agreed that Chinese box was a POS, and when the world fails you you go DIY! Notice the lack of detail on those pics, this is truly intentional!! I missed detail but I did capture the loneliness of the artist (always alone with his build) pretty accurately - I should say.

Miter saw and miter box..... tada!!!!! The angles don't match perfectly but who cares. This wood has the word quality written all over it. :smash:

Nice work, I also like hybrid wood and aluminium.
