the Praetorians. ;)
big man with an axe was coming.

I carry not an axe but a lance and sword. Thou shalt be wary when I wield these tools. Ye shall remain a good servant and not speak lowly of thy nation nor fellow man for fear the wrath of the Praetorians.

Hey wahab
You have forgot us. That's all?
I don't forget never your fellowman Albert Camus who is in the top of my beloved philosophers. I have all of his works. Some in two or three different translations.

Don t be worried Fotios,, i m back.
I m not particularly a fan of Camus, but i think that
it s because we were forced to read it at school here
in France , at an age wen we are reluctant against any
form of authority...

Symetrically, i did much appreciate Geece history and
her philosopher s teachings...

Another prove, if it was ever needed, that none is prophet
in his own land..

Deflation is never a good thing...I can't think of an instance in economic history where a period of deflation has coincided with prosperity. OTOH, history is filled with examples of deflation coincident with economic depression.

To quote (approximately) Milton Friedman "The Euro won't survive its first economic crisis". He presaged the necessity of common culture for common banking systems. Thus, Greece can't temporarily inflate its money stock to reflate its economy, same with Italy, Spain and Portugal.

Surely that the inflated housing price that led to the subprime
debacle was a good thing , then ?...
More seriously , deflation s not only when prices decrease, but also
when incomes grow faster than prices, and in this respect ,
this kind of deflation was the basis of US prosperity for many years.

I own a master degree in economics, and i can tell you
that Friedman s theories, i.e; what was called Chicago s school,
is a complete scam that is reactionnary at will , since his
main results is to use unemployement as the variable to
reduce inflation , that is, to keep the money its purchasing power
in behalf of the money owners...

Basically, increase unemployement , so the price of labour can t
inflate the global prices snce the labour market is filled with
people in search of a work..
What these mediocre theorists didn t say was that inflkation would
still occur , but on the behalf of the real estate traffickers
and wall street s swindlers...

European countries are currently experimenting the
doubtful benefits of such monetarists flawed theories...

Well, if we are here already, according to me give to his hand a chainsaw.
What something else fits a Canadian hand? (While there is a forest.)
I imagine a terribly big slap from him, otherwise.
Without all appliances.
Excuse me, really I want to hurt nobody.
I am wacky certainly, but I want to hurt nobody really.
And if this somebody doubts, I kick it on the head.:)

Have you read any of "The Fall", "The Plague", "The myth of Sisyphus" or "The Stranger"?

Only the last mentioned, as it was mandatory at the Lycée.
(high school ?)

Correct, we have in Greece the same system in 2nd degree education. High school, is divided in two seasons of 3 years each one. The first is called Gymnasium and it is compulsory. Thus in Greece, we have 6 years of compulsory education in primary school and another 3 years in Gymnasium, total 9 years of compulsory education, absolutely free of cost. The last season of 3 years in high school is called as well here, Lycee.
By chance, the first book of A. Camus that i read (in my 17) was "The Strange". Very difficult book. I remember that i read it 3 times without understanding it at whole. Now, in my 52 i can understand very well the meaning of "The Strange". I can understand as well, why is mandatory in French education. Do you?
We have many common things with France. In high school, instead English we had compulsory the French language! You may know as well, that the Constitution of Greece it is almost the same with this of France.

True that some books are quite difficult to understand when we are
too young and with no real understandings of the meanings of life..

Camus s book meaning is elsewhere than in the related story and
most of the time it escape those who are not aware of Algeria s
status at the time..
Its true meaning, that did perhaps escape the author himself is that
the indigenous people doesn t exist, that the native people are just
without any value and can be killed without any remorse, as
aknowledged by the words of the "hero" in the book.
The real stranger is the one that is killed in his native soil
and whose life is just a tool to magnificate a murderer destiny,
and as, the murdered one is a stranger in his own land..
