it ended up doing 146.7dB on music (at 52Hz) and does nearly 142dB at 20Hz.

It's probably not a good idea to be IN the car when playing it back at that level .

I wouldn't've said it's a standard TL either. Not sure what it is, though - there's that many drivers that ones of each distance from the mouth will see a different tuning, so it would probably be difficult to simulate what's happening.
If it was me, I'd try blocking the port: below whatever tuning it is, the drivers will unload completely, giving lots of excursion, but relatively little output.
If you could get an impedance curve of the subwoofer as a whole, we might be able to see what's going on.
