C/E/X PA Flat to 30 (FT30) PA TH Awesomeness

So much plywood, so little path length needed for low frequency extension.

Oh well, life is full of compromises;).

All These Symmetric designs have the disadvantage of needing far more timber!
Thoughts behind My hasty lunchtime sketch.:)
The layout is stepped. No attempt at tapering the sections was made. This would make for a simple build for a complicated box layout. Each concentic section could be made from 4 identically cut parts.
The horn shape is fairly inflexible, I adjusted the overall width to get approx 615cm sq for S2, approx 2 :1 compression for an 18" driver. A compression ring / spacer would be needed to allow for driver Xmech.
With the simple steps, first and second section would be aproximately equal .
Third section doubles the area
Fouth section doubles again, and is the S4 driver area.
Final expansion doubles again if the horn mouth extension is used.
Each expansion is actually more than double as the proportion of the area ocupied by the timber reduces with each section.
Careful adjustment of the panels could tweak the areas / expansion ratio.
Sneaky bit is the 45 deg angling of the sections - this increases the horn length as the path crosses diagonally from section to section.;)

its not so much more wood, you dont need bracings+its super stiff construction.
i measured my design diagonal ,path lengt wil be aprox 3.4 mtrs .
for me thats a bit to low.

what exacly wil that cavitie in front do?.
i was thinking putting the mouth pannel flush to the front.
just need that depth for the speaker.

have you guys seen this design? i have figured it to take 14 sheets (4x8) to build 6 of them. that is with 23% on the cut out sheets, and maybe 15% on the cnc sheets.

Extended CB-18 Cyclops - Speakerplans.com Forums - Page 1

will take 12.5 sheets to build 6 of Xco1's TH-18.
no were just spacing:D
how did you caculated this so quick?

btw,im putting this in to akabak.
what do you think all?

were just brainstorming here:)
so i put martins idea in to a drawing.
i think we got something here.

beautiful lady! epa new tapped horns are beautiful more than the past. i just hv designed as the same. love tapped horn with the sound but hate it when have the the problem when bend it. i try to design push pull tapped horn like this but still can't finish. i hope will finish if not i will want ur help with my desu\ign. thanks 4 the pic friend.

tnx thawach
drivers position in the point in the pic maybe wil cause problem.
the pressure maybe to high where the cones are closesed to eachother.
imho

Wow! That PP idea looks nice too! How low you want to tune it?

hi stanley
its only a model.im gona bild this next time(test box),but it should work with most modern pro 18 inches qts 30 to 40 and vas 175 to 300 ltr.
sym%20beyma.JPG

now the folow up on this design.
i finaly had time to do some measurements.
here are the results
measured with uncalibrated beringer mic.
use arta and limp sw.
indoors close mic.
resultaat.jpg

as we can see the horn is in reality shorter then simmed.
i used the white line ,but i think i should measure the red line.
in the hr sim the grey line is like the white line in the model ,and the red line in hr sim is what ive measured looking /comparing the imp graph.
it sounds good but not a flat to 30 sub(more flat to 40).

btw the shopped off first imp peak is due to either the sw or the elcheapo external usb soundcart i used.

edit/ this box was not designed for the 18sound lw 1400,but i had this one close by
