One last photo before.....

Presenting the finished Nbip 300. I thought I should post a photo of the finished module before I fire it up, in case it gets ugly. If I get time I'll test it tonight.

Behind it is the amps smaller and more powerful brother the Nmos 350.

Cheers
Quasi

Hi.

I've been simulating both the Quasi-MOS and the Quasi-BJT-amp, and it seems that they both perform pretty much the same, - at least as far as I can tell from theese crude sims.

One differense is that the MOS-amp distorts and clips the signal when loaded with 2 Ohm.

Any ideas as to the why there's this difference?

Why not using MJE15030 / 31 for pushpull ?

Sorry about the delay Digora. Are you talking about the second stage? I've just always used MJE340/350's here. There are better transistors to use here but the MJE15030 / 31 is not one of them. They are better suited to output drivers and this what I have used here.

I will update the schematics with a different transistor for the second stage one day.

Hi Quasi,

I plan to build your amp.
Are the following schematics/layout which i need to use

Schematics
Layout

I have a 22-0-22 10A transformer. Will the circuit require any change for use with this transformer.

Thanks
pgbhat

Yes they are the correct versions. Your transformer is too low in voltage however to do this amp justice. At best this amp with your transformer will deliver about 45 watts into 8 ohms. You would be far better off building a chip amp for this amount of power.

Can you get another transformer the same? You can then run them in series and get around 180 watts into 8 ohms.

Hi Quasi,

May be i will buy a 40-0-40 transformer.
I have couple of LM4780's. Will use 22-0-22 for that.

One question on the layout.
The drill size (in the board) for the collector of the TO-3 devices looks small. How did you screw those to the board.

The 40-0-40 transformer will give you about 145 watts into 8 ohms and around 270 into 4. Your transformer size in VA should be about the output power in watts x 1.5. So for a stereo amp delivering 145 watts into 8 ohms your transformer should be at leaset 400va.

The holes in the PCB for the TO3's are only intended to be pilot holes. You will need to drill another hole to take the screws you are going to use. Drill a hole only just big enough to take the screws without any slop.

God website, Quasi!
( done with Frontpage and using Frames )

Did you do that site yourself  ???
... i did mine using notepad and wordpad, wrote it by hand from scratch
( http://lineup.awardspace.com/ )

You even have PCB layout & tracks for N-BIP350:
http://www.adam.com.au/cgpap/QuasiWeb/pdf's/Nchan BIP350 layout & tracks.pdf

A piece of advice from me, with almost 10 years experience of web design:
1. Avoid spaces in folder and filenames you will use in your webspace
2. You have used folder name /pdf's/.
This time it did work at your webhosting server.
The resulting URL and LINK is working.
But next time you may have to rewrite your folders and filenames

3. Another way to say this is:
Restrict ot Use only these chars:
a-z (in lowercase)
0-9
_ (underscore)
- (think it is called 'hyphen' in english)

You PDF link
/cgpap/QuasiWeb/pdf's/Nchan BIP350 layout & tracks.pdf
in my opinion, would better be:
/cgpap/quasiweb/pdf_s/nchan_bip350_layout_and_tracks.pdf

This is from a very strict web standard.
Usually not allowed characters and SPACES are replaced with '_' underscore.
---------------------------------

But a good working website you have, man
Reminds me a bit of Greg Ball, amplifierguru first site setup. His was even more simple.

Hi quasi,

10 years ago it would have been good advice, now it's not generally a problem. Most systems replace spaces with a %20 for you. I wouldn't change anything until a problem does actually occur. If you decided to use notepad to edit your html files then it would be slightly more difficult to maintain.

I think using meaningful filenames is more important. ;)
