They do a decent imitation.
So my concern would be MTBF ...Uriah
Tough little buggers...and at 15V and about 10 - 12mA (Mr. Pass?) they'll be singing for a long, long time. I think he is also planning on lowering down to +/-12V using batteries.
Here is not 1000 JFETs, but
The secret and very evil weapon for the IP Thievery club.
Read that smile, it says : go ahead and clone this, you Bluedy Sckrs.
There are several things to discourage competition from cloning this amp:
1) It must be soldered by hand, and it takes a lot of time (impatient competition will roll their eyes upon seeing it-wont even think about soldering 3000+legs)
2) Papa will purchase all remaining stock of J-fets, so there won't be any left for competitors
The good thing is that, when Papa gets bored of these amps, he will have years supply of J'fets (and some even for us). Imagine a conversation after 10 years: Halo, Nelson, I want to build a Jfet preamp, but I can't find any jfets...
Papa: Wait, I have some on the boards of those beasts, somewhere in my basement...lemme unsolder some and I'll send them to you...

So my concern would be MTBF with several thousand of the little critters in there. If one goes bad do we just lose one or do we lose the board?
Uriah
We lose one.

I left the leads long.
We lose one.
Assuming 1000 Jfets per channel, by loosing one, we loose 0.1% of sound quality? Somebody may hear that!
It works very well. I haven't had the time to play with it as much
as I would like. I finally got Jill to bring her macro lens back from the
coast so I could take the pictures I need, and the article will be finished
in about 3 weeks.
Jan has chosen my SIT article over this, so then I have to decide where to
put it. Maybe AudioXpress.

You can always put it here for the wider audience.
Patrick
I second that
