A 2.25 inch driver flat does not push much air. Usable 100 Hz nearfield is darn good. More expensive drivers may get to 80. Sonically, that is a big difference. To get to 60, which gives the perspective of full range just is not going to happen.

This needs to be qualified with more data. For instance. I can make a 1" driver make 20hz. How? Well, if it has a few millimetres of travel and my required output is 60db, then whats the big deal. Easy enough.

Most people want background music at their desk. And considering they're usually only 1m away, means effeciency isn't a big deal either. From personal experience, a 4" driver makes all the bass I need without hardly even moving the cone. And that's even listening to electronic music.
