jReave: I see what you mean now, thanks for taking the time to sketch it. Looks good and I think I'm up to the task of construction. I'll either be finding a friend with a decent table saw or having the material cut professionally from the supplier I'd say. I'd like to believe I could make good cuts with a circular saw and guide, but I doubt it. 
abstract: Thanks for the input. I'm sure room interactions pose a great influence than time alignment on the final sound. Also, I get the feeling that this project could be one that convinces me to use active filtering. I'll be going with a passive filter first and working from there.
