Hi Ray,

Would you please elaborate more on your power switch? woukd be an essential once I am able to box up.

Hi Chanh. the switch is simply a momentary action switch connected between P9_9 and ground. Pressing the switch pulls P9_9 to ground, initiating a shutdown just like the onboard power button. Once shutdown, to restart disconnect then reconnect BBB power; it will boot on detecting power. It works for me.

Documentation on this is in the BBB manual, available at beaglebone.org. Have a look at Table 13 on page 85. There are some schematics in the manual too.

There seem to be a few DAC builds using Acko's SO3 to interface with Beaglebone Blacks (BBB) going on at the moment, my own included.

Acko kindly provided me with a ufl connector interface board to use with my BBB when I purchased the SO3 and I have to say that these little boards are very neat and tidy. However, upon reflection, I decided not to use one with my board as I couldn't see a real advantage in using ufl connectors between the BBB and SO3 and, in fact using them would just introduce another connection interface. Instead I've used a short length of ribbon cable, soldered directly to the SO3 and with good tight header pins (soldered to the ribbon cable, not simply crimped) at the BBB end. The result is pictured below.

I will be using ufl connectors between the SO3 and the DAC as both have the requisite connectors installed and having reclocked the data with the SO3 they seem like a good choice for getting the data to the DAC.

My DAC build is ongoing, and I'm not a quick builder, but I'm hoping to get the DAC board and power supplies installed this weekend.

BTW, the pink and black wires running close to the ribbon cable go to a momentary switch that will shutdown the BBB when necessary.

Nice setup!
It is alright to wire in connections at the input as signals get re-clocked later but take care with the output cables- should be connected straight and short as possible to the DAC, especially the MCK. No kinks or sharp bends even though they are coax. Treat HF signals like flow of water in a pipe.
BTW, your S03 has 100M Clocks (98.xx/90.xxMHz) vs 50M ones tested so far and will be interesting to see the outcome. Looking forward to your test results

Hi,

could you please enlighten me on what the DDDAC-UFL does?

I am looking for a UFL-(IDC 20 pin) adaptor like those Ian has to use on my Buffalo. Are we talking about the same gizmo? If so I would like one with connectors already soldered to it.

I have been unable to figure out how to obtain them from Ian, given how long the FIFO thread is.

TIA

Thanks Acko.

Thats what I figured

Connections between SO3 and DAC will be via 10cm ufl cables run in sweeping curves.

Absolutely, connection to the DAC will be via the Turbo MCK output on the SO3. It'll be an Apples ansd Pears comparison though versus my previous RAKK DAC and an ES9023 equipped headphone amp.

Is there any chance of supplying these with 3 short ufl leads? Like 50mm? I can't find any less than 10cm

Thanks,
James

Is this to fit the BIII DIN header?
Sorry, apart from VD, I cannot see how the rest of the holes will fit the 0.1 inch pitch header of DIN?
Assuming also you just want the stereo connections only- will simplify layout for a new board
