2N3055 inside - commercial famous amplifier models, quasi complementary power output

OOOOoooooh! , very nice collection. A couple of Delco (I think they did silicon) and GE types would round it out a bit. BTW a couple of Matsushita 2N3055s (as used in NAD 3020etc from an earlier posting) will amaze!
regards
really? I cannot believe this. The brand logo from Motorola and Matsushita are not identical, but similar.
In the attachement NAD3020 with 2N3055 from various brands.
BTW - to find out the first solid state audio components in general I have start this thread:
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/soli...id-state-audio-amplifier-components-want.html
But the really first commercial amp (or receicer?), where 2N3055 is in use, is also still wanted.

Tief,
Have a look at Mosquito's post #17. Actually, Matsushitas stick out because the black branding occupies half of the cover. This was so on two 3020s that I have repaired and on a later 703...? receiver that I did not succeed with and lies somewhere in the garden shed. I replaced at least one of them, however.
regards

...and post #18 and then my post #56. As I know, also black anodized 2N3055 versions was available from Toshiba, as to see in the attachement by very old germanium versions. Bu I am not sure absolutely.

Now I understand, why it is very hard to find the realy first solid state amps equipped with 2N3055; most of the brands in the United Sates uses only power output transistors with their own factory number like Motorola's power device 132-070 for McIntosh = Industry standart 2N5303 (see attachement)
So I need a list with all exist custom factory part No (at least 50 different in unse) for the 2N3055 to find the first amp models with this.

BTW - complete service manual of MC250 you will find there
6th Street Bridge: McIntosh MC-250 update
or there

First German Receivers 2N3055 inside: Wega "142" and "144" from 1968

Wega receivers (AM/FM tuner include power amp) model "142" and "144", introduced 1968, uses the 2N3055 in it's power output stages. The "142" is a version in mono with loudspeaker on board (5W output power) and the "144" in stereo. Only from the "142" some pics in the attachement.
I don't know about an earlier model on the German marked, that was equipped with 2N3055 in the output power stage - because germanium types like AD149 in that time much more cheaper.

AMPLIFICATORE DA CASA STEREO RCF AF 6070 MADE IN ITALY su eBay.it Amplificatori, Hi Fi e Home Theatre, Audio, TV, Elettronica
I have found the same auction (second offer). Because the photos after two or three months would be deleted again, I have save the photos and the ebay members as PDF attachement. Can you contact the new owner about ebay and ask them, if he can make any internal photos and send to you for posting here? Online there are no information and photos available about this amp. Thank you very much

In New Zealand about 1970, several models of the locally built "Fountain" brand amplifiers used 2N3055 transistors. My first amp was a Fountain 1550. I traced the power amp circuit, it was similar to the J Linsley Hood designs popular about that time.
also a "hard to find" model (only by chance):

I save the photos in the attached files. Have you are a schematic?

AFAIK, the Grundig RTV 600 receiver, released in 1967, had 4 2N3055 output tansistors as standard equipment. They had the old style RCA logo !

yes - thank you

Aufbereitung eines Klassikers: Grundig RTV 600, Hifi-Klassiker - HIFI-FORUM
RTV600 (RTV 600) Radio Grundig (Radio-V

I still want to know the first commercial products equipped with 2N3055.
I have heard, that the same die was also inside by the types 40636 (also RCA, selected 2N3055 for higher secondary breakdown voltage), BDY39 and BD130 (Siemens, Germany). But I think, this types was later released.
I have found cover pics from old RCA data books from 1961-1962 (see attachement). It would be interesting to know, whether there the 2N3055 already mentioned.

interesting advices. The first elektor magazine from German was launched Mai 1970. Are you sure, that the Dutch version already present in Jan 1969?

You say Later these amps were sold as 'de Vries 2x27Watt'
What means "later"? Already in 1963 or 1964?

About post #64 you will find the first me known product on the German marked equipped with 2N3055

"Elektor is a monthly magazine about all aspects of electronics, first published as "Elektuur" in the Netherlands in 1960, and now published worldwide in many languages including English, German, Dutch, French, Greek, Spanish, Swedish, Portuguese (native and Brazilian) and Italian with distribution in over 50 countries. The English language edition of Elektor was launched in 1975 and is read worldwide."

thank you very much for this advice. I know all this except the fact, that the Netherlands version "Elektuur" already exist 10 years before release the first German edition from 1970 (I have it all from 1970 until december 2009 except any few editions between 1970 and 1976).
I haven't success to find "Elektuur" editions before 1970 on the web.

ELA Power Amp Dynacord "DEM-286" and Telefunken V665 ("V 665")

The Dynacord amplifier without global NFB and driver transformer and output transformer works with 2x TDA2030 for driving a very fat driver transformer "DCN 309272". This one drive a push pull darlington pair that consists of one 2N6487 and three parallel switched 40636 from RCA for each half (40636 = 2N3055 with higher value for Vceo).
Instead the six emitter resistors there are six primary windings of a big fat output transformer "DCN 330775". The detailled circuit you will get from Dynacord as PDF file. The circuit description is to find in the German Magazine "Funkschau" number 3 from the year 1984. page 41.
Here some URLs from this model and related other models probably with similar schematic:

http://www.ela-data.de/PDFs/DEM287_288.pdf
Basicly great similarity with the topology of
http://www.susan-parker.co.uk/
After certainly modifications (especially after remove the frequency low/high pass limitations) this could be a ultimate sounded home hifi power amp. I like such designs, because it is easy to get a symmetric signal behaviour.

About the Telefunken model (ELA power amp) "V665" with 250W output power no pics and information online at this time (auctions from ebay unfortunately always deleted after 3 months).
in the German magazine Funkschau Number 8 from the year 1974 you will find a detailled circuit description from page 251 to 254 about this model.

BTW the term ELA is the German abbreviation for "Public Address" (PA)
and stands for Elektroakustik (electro acoustic)
But in New High German colloquial usage this terms no longer the same;
Ela means that the application was improved for voice transmissions without music, i. e. only spoken/lecture, while PA means that the application has been optimized for music live events on stage (music open air or indoor concerts).
